> Small Business Server Question 0 Sign in to vote I'm not sure netbt error 4321 windows server 2003 if this is a server/network issue or something dodgy on this one workstation. I have been having intermittent slow event 4321 netbt windows 7 network access for some time, and have tried various things at various times, but haven't really got to the problem. Now I've started getting this NetBT error 4321 and HTTP does not

seem to work (I can still access websites using HTTPS). In the error message in the event log it is saying that the name could not be registered, but the name it gives does not appear to be the correct computer name. It is showing the domain name a couple of spaces then :1d, which looks to me like it's got a corruption of the

name somewhere. We were doing some work on the server on Friday to fix some problems, and it's possible that this has somehow caused this, although it was working fine on Monday, and only started getting the problem on Tuesday. I think the machine may have been left on over the weekend so it was probably after re-booting. Most of the changes we made were to fix some startup problems on the server, so I don't think this would affect it. We did make some changes though to the group policy firewall settings though which were preventing remote access to XP machines, and we were using this machine to investigate and test this, so it's possible that we inadvertenly changed a setting somewhere. Any suggestions where to start looking? Wednesday, November 21, 2012 10:39 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I ran system restore, and HTTP is now working again. The machine with the IP address 192.168.0.11 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.XXXX is a PC on the network. The 151 address is the new laptop and the 11 address is the WINS server.I've found a whole bunch of references to this when the error is :1d (after the PC name), but nothing as to :0.I've tried turning off the Computer Browser service on the laptops to no avail.I've looked at other PCs on the network and none are showing this error in the log.I'm not noticing any connectivity errors at all.Does anybody have any ideas? In our case, it is a xp HOME machine on a xp PRO network. Several things changed recently, a new anti-virus on the XP Home machine, a laptop fan repair, another machine added to the network (a Windows 7 machine which may be using IPv6 and not IPv4). The HOME machine, a Dell laptop, started jumping from its standard IP address of xxx.xxx.xx.197 to xxx.xxx.xx.198 and then later when that failed, it started up a xxx.xxx.xx.199. I thought about hard coding the IP address into the network card, but it seems to be a problem because, I for one cannot remember that the card has a hard coded IP address and it takes time to figure that out when there are other workgroup issues so I prefer to leave the wireless NIC card set to auto-resolve. The name "MSHOME :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address xxx.xxx.xx.198. The machine with the IP address xxx.xxx.xx.197 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine. Given these circumstances, the 4321 Event ID appears because the XP Pro, owner of the workgroup, doesn't recognize the laptop under the new IP address. The laptop wireless doesn't understand what is blocking it, drops the wireless connection and tries to pick it up again, or will try to find a new IP address that is not blocked and the whole mess just repeats itself. One suggested solution is to dump the workgroup, create a new one and re-add the machines to the new workgroup. This appears to be a temporary solution and disturbs others on the workgroup who do not have this problem. The solution might be to alter the hosts file in the XP Pro machine, owner of the workgroup. I would do this, as it seems a decent solution, then when the HOME machine jumps to a new IP, the hosts file can be changed to accomodate the renegade HOME machine. My question is more of security. Is using an old (pre-IPSEC ??) solution to resolve this, secure? We are behind a NAT. All machines run Zone Alarm. The XP Pro runs CA, Windows 7 - Avast, and the Windows HOME runs AVG. Is there a way to enable NetBIOS on the HOME lapt
