How to fix Windows 7 Startup Problem - Error code 0x490 problems? Sometimes, the built-in repair tool doesn't work. You'll have to go into the Command Prompt and work it out. As for the weird Windows directory, I'm not sure whats up with that, but for now, lets try to get into the MBR and fix that, since that appears to be the issue here (as the http://tipsandtricksforum.com/thread-201.html OS loader was not found/could not be found). Method 1: With the repair CD inserted, from the list of recovery tools, select Command Prompt, and enter the following: Code: BootRec.exe /fixmbr If that doesn't work, you can substitute that command for the following list (i.e. run the following commands if /fixmbr did not work): Writes a boot sector onto the system partition to start Windows: Code: BootRec.exe /FixBoot Scans all disks for Windows installations and displays them to you: Code: BootRec.exe /ScanOs Scans all disks for Windows installations and prompts you to pick the ones you want to add to the BCD: Code: BootRec.exe /RebuildBcd Method 2: If you don't have the repair CD, you can use the RegCure tool, it is a FREE PC Repair tool designed to repair Microsoft Windows 7 Error Code 0x490 problems & errors. Repair Action : Partition 490 windows 7 table repair. Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490." When I tried to reinstall windows, the setup only shows 107mb system reserved partition on the SSD and nothing else. a)I tried using boootrec.exe command with /FixBoot and /FixMbr options, they return action successful even though the problem is still persisting. b) I also tried the /ScanOs and /RebuildBcd options with bootrec.exe but they return "total identified windows installations:0" I booted from a linux live usb and tried to see whats going on. The filesystem seems to be there but the size of the ssd drive is a meagre 107mb and its labeled "system reserve" even when it has all the os files in there. Just before this happened, I was trying to make some partitions by shringking one of the existing volumes in the data drive (which is 2tb hdd) and it gave me an error "drive already has max number of partitions". So I So i tried using partition magic which had compatibility issues and didn't run properly. It tried to fix some corrupt boot sectors but then failed. so I closed it down and restarted the pc.
