Right click on the key and click "Permissions...", then Add. Type in your username then "Check Names". Click OK. Then Click Advanced and then the Owner tab. Highlight your username and hit OK. You should now be able to check Full Control under the Allow column and from there actually delete the key. Edit: You can also check the "Advanced" permissions with the list of "Permission entries" to see if there are any "Deny" types preventing deletion. share|improve this answer edited Oct 8 '15 at 18:24 Johis 134 answered May 2 '15 at 19:28 Bill Oertell 5541415 add a comment| Did you find this question interesting? I downloaded MCPR.exe, and run it as an admin, in safe mode, but it fails to remove some registry keys. When I try to edit permissions for those keys, i get "permission denied", even though I am an admin, and run regedit as an admin. How should I remove those keys? windows-7 windows-registry share|improve this question asked Sep 6 '10 at 23:23 A-K 125138 migrated from stackoverflow.com Sep 6 '10 at 23:38 This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers. If you check the permissions of the key(s) in question, and particularly the owner of same, you may find that you need to first take ownership to change the permissions. –BillP3rd Sep 7 '10 at 0:57 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted Right click on the Key in Question and select Permissions Then click the advanced Button Then click the Owner Tab, highlight your Admin account in the "Change Owner To" window, then tick the "Replace Owners on sub containers and objects" box and hit OK on all the open windows. closing all permissions windows. Re open permissions on the same key and tick Full Control in the Allow column, hit OK You should be able to delete the key now. share|improve this answer answered Sep 7 '10 at 21:45 Moab 46.1k776129 1 Thanks a lot, this did it! –A-K Sep 12 '10 at 11:55 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Registry keys have ACLs that dictate permissions ju
