(5) Hello there, I hope someone can help me out on this one. I've been http://superuser.com/questions/676621/unable-to-execute-file-in-the-temporary-directory-error-5-access-is-denied recently hit by Rootkit TDL3 virus which I finally managed to clear. What a b**** that was. Things seemed to get back to normal, except I just noticed one windows 7 thing. Whenever I try to execute an EXE file I get the "Error Executing Program! (5)" error. This only seems to happen certain file types, primarily EXE and HLP files, but no problems running all other extensions. It seems there's been some kind of a corruption in the registry - but what...? I tried re-installing TC to how to run the latest version. No change. Tried a few other would-be solutions too, but no joy. Now... the weird thing is that if I go to Explorer - the same files run just fine. Any ideas? Thanks for your reply! Am still not much wiser... It worked right up until a few days ago (before the virus). Seemingly the same TC version. I'm not aware of any changes I made to the system other than what I mentioned (removing

I have tried: Turning off the User Access Control (UAC) Right click and Run as Administrator Run installer in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP2) Give permission to all temporary folders available (C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp) Relocate the temporary folder to C:\temp and give it the permission Take control of temporary folders Creating a new administrator account and installing from that account Checking the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSession (there's nothing there though) Also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SERVICES\MSIserver\WOW64 (still nothing) Running MalwareBytes and scan for suspicious files that may block the installing process. But, still, it hasn't been successful. The Access is denied warning always appears and gives me a lot of headaches. I can't install anything. Some example are node.js and Audacity. –deathlock Nov 17 '13 at 13:13 The only way for me to install
