I tryed to remove some spyware and upon reboot everything was fine until you choose your user. Once that happens a error box comes up reading: Explorer.exe - Unable to locate component Failed to start because wininet.dll was not found. Re-installing this may fix the problem. I tryed booting from the windows xp home edition cd but was unsuccesful. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-performance/resolved-explorerexe-unable-to-locate-componentthe/126b493c-2466-40be-9c3c-a42e55877b8b I really have some important files on the pc and home i can get this issue handled without doing anything crazy like taking the HD out and moving the files to this pc. Edit: Important note: The start menu and no icons load up. Just my background. Thanks for the help! Re-installing the application may fix this problem.************************************************************After you press "OK", error message explorer it just sits there with the background screen and does nothing. I've tried putting the "WININET.dll" file in the "C:\windows\system" and "C:\windows\system32" directories, but it still does the same thing. I tried "chkdsk /f" at a command prompt (by pressing F8 and selecting "SAFE mode with command prompt") with no success.I found a few other links to restore the registry, restore windows using the "i386" file, and other things, but it still gives that error message. The only access I have right now is going into "SAFE mode with command prompt" and using the command prompt for any fixes or troubleshooting. A format for me on this drive is not an option, as I've not had the chance to back any software up and would loose a large amount of unrecoverable data.Any help would be appreciated. · actions · 2005-Dec-18 12:20 pm · sargeeldSgm RetiredPre

The error message notifies you that Explorer.exe is not able to locate component, as Browseui.dll could not be found and you may try reinstalling the application in order to resolve the problem. When such an error is encountered, the computer tends to hang in the middle of the boot up process displaying a black colored background screen. Yet, if Windows is able to logon to the PC desktop, many desktop components such as Start menu, desktop icons and Taskbar go missing and are not displayed. In order to resolve this issue in Windows XP, you need to follow the below mentioned procedure which is provided by Microsoft: You need to first restart your PC in “Safe Mode with Command Prompt”. For doing so, you need to press F8 key while booting your PC and then choose “Safe Mode with Command Prompt” option from the “Windows Advanced Options” that are displayed in the BIOS information. Once Windows starts, you will see "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" displayed in blue on your computer screen at the bottom. Now, Windows XP CD needs to be inserted into the CD drive. Go to the command prompt and enter the below mentioned command and press the “Enter” key in order to switch to %Windir%\System32 folder. cd C:\Windows\System32 The drive might be a different one on your PC depending on where your Windows OS is been installed. Rename the existing browseui.dll to a different n
