LOL. After doing some online research via google it turns out what I'm experiencing is a so called Windows 1721 error. It would be nice if windows actually told me that that's what it is, itunes won't install on windows 7 and for that matter which program is the "required" program, but it doesn't. After some additional research, someone suggested that the program in question is Apple Software Update and the proposed solution was to "repair" that program in "Programs" under the Control Panel. I did that, and finally both Quicktime and iTunes were able to install.Other suggestions that didn't seem to make any difference were to turn off the firewall and virus protection software. Thanks Mike!Mike Helpful (1) Reply options Link to this post by b noir, b noir Sep 10, 2012 2:19 PM in response to mduquesnay Level 9 (72,129 points) Sep 10, 2012 2:19 PM in response to mduquesnay Glad you got things sorted out, Mike, and many thanks for reporting back with your resolution. You've got things pretty well covered for them, but just in case it's of help for other folks with the issue here's a link to a user tip on the issue:"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by narhenry, narhenry Jun 11, 2015 10:54 AM in response to mduquesnay Level 1 (0 points) Jun 11, 2015 10:54 AM in response to mduquesnay Thanks! There seems to be a problem with the folder C:\Program Files(x86)\QuickTime\ - Quick Time wants to write the file QTTask.exe, but complains that it does not have permission to do so. Same thing happens with \PropertyPanels\PanelHelperBase.qpa I have tried deleting all Apple programs (in the order suggested in the support http://superuser.com/questions/229510/quicktime-wont-install-on-windows-7-ultimate-64bit forum) and also tried to delete the temp folder. That did not work. I have tried to manually adjust the permissions of the QuickTime folder - no effect. I have run the installation file with admin rights and with different compatibility modes to no effect. I consider myself to be an experienced user - able to solve most problems - but now I am stuck. I need some input / fresh ideas on how to tackle the problem. This is very annoying as I cannot sync iPhone/iPad/iPod while iTunes is not running - due to the stupid (sorry) idea of only have your device linked to one library. Please help. (I only say this because I get the impression you'd like an alternative.) –Shinrai Jan 5 '11 at 18:59 There is different software? I didnt know that. Can it also grap podcasts from iTunes and install apps and stuff? –Martin Jan 5 '11 at 19:06 I tried to install
by a stupid check that Apple has built in to the installation file, preventing installation of QuickTime on a newer OS https://tommynation.com/install-quicktime-windows-10/ such as Windows 10. Well, I know my way around software installations, so I fixed it with a workaround, and thought I would share it here on TommyNation in case http://sundaysoftware.com/quicktime/ someone else might find it useful. The workaround is pretty straightforward, just follow the steps below! NEW EDIT PLEASE READ FIRST: You may try the numbered steps further below windows 7 for a 100% "official" installation that also works for deployment (silently) on multiple computers, OR you may try an older version 7.7.6 which some report to be working (click to download 7.7.6), OR try this custom installer which makes it easier to install a working, up to date version of QuickTime on Windows 10: DOWNLOAD THE CUSTOM INSTALLER FOR QUICKTIME itunes for windows 7.7.8 (Or click here to download previous version: 7.7.7) Current version and build is 7.7.8 (1680.95.71) PS! I recommend clicking the "Download through your browser" link once the download page loads. PPS! You may uninstall the "Not Apple Inc" application after installation, or you may also cancel the installation after Quicktime has been installed. If you don't cancel, an empty "Not Apple Inc" folder will be created under the "%appdata%\Roaming" folder, but nothing is actually installed. To uninstall the "Not Apple Inc" installation application, open Settings > System > Apps & features and uninstall it from the list by clicking it and the selecting "Uninstall". Read on if you want to do the official "clean" installation with original files from Apple that you download yourself: First, you need to be able to extract the installation file, so install WinRAR or 7Zip first (either one should work fine and is free to use. I used WinRAR). Download QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the official QuickTime for Windows page. (Google it if the link is dead). To make things easier, sa
