Windows Installer Hangs On Preparing To Install
by the installation of Office 2010 SP2 and the responsibility of Microsoft, and I have no intention of paying for them to fix the problem they caused. Since we own a license for Office 365, I uninstalled Office 2010 and installed the newer software. Needless to say, this fixed the problem. I am extremely dissatisfied with Microsoft's service at this point and am considering my options. One thing for certain, I will not blindly install Microsoft updates any further. Go to Control panel>program and features tomake sure only one version of Office is installed in your machine. If the issue persists, do a repair for your Office suites in Control panel>Program and features>Office>Change>Repair We might also disable the updates to check. This is related to a program you installed or partially uninstalled. Have you run any registry cleaning programs? If so can you restore anything it cleaned? Reports: · Posted 4 years ago Top ispalten Posts: 6259 This post has been reported. The is a 'clean up' program for MSI (Microsoft Installer) but it is no longer supported. I've used it when I had a similar problem. MS has a 'fixit' that might work for you --> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651/ However, you can still get it --> http://www.404techsupport.com/.....p-utility/ When you run it, look for the program that is going to be installed. Probably cause is a problem in the Registry I would assume. Did you run a Registry cleaning recently? Use an Uninstaller, it might have taken out something required. Irv S. I changed my hard drive last week, and I believe that was when the problem started. Now, every time I run XL or WORD, a "Windows Installer - Preparing to install..." small window pops up. With XL, it takes about 15 seconds, the small install window disappears, and the program runs fine. But the 15 seconds are annoying. With WORD, however, another small window pops up after about 30+ seconds: "Microsoft Office Word 11.0 - An error occurred and this feature is no longer running properly. Please run Setup and select 'Repair...' to restore this application.†A few seconds after I close that window, WORD starts and runs fine. I have searched for a Setup file in the Program Files\Microsoft Office folder, but the only file with that name is SETUP.CHM, which I do not believe is a setup program to be run. What do you recommend I do? Thanks! HI Ingeniero1, In order to do a repair of any version office program you will need the original cd disks. Any repair will ask for these. The option for repair is usually under the menubar "Help" command>"detect and repair".
