I resigned myself to the fact that I would actually need to sift through some Apple Support forums. Luckily for me, the answer was close at hand. In one Apple Support forum thread, the users were mentioning that the issue resided with the Apple Software Update service on Windows. The solution therefore is quick and painless. Head on over to Programs and Features and right-click the update app. Select Repair from the context menu that pops up. In no time, Windows does its thing. In fact I had to double-check because I wasn’t sure that the repair did anything. Restarting the installer proved successful and the installation of iTunes 12.3 completed without errors.
