ORA-19502: Write Error on File Tips Expert ora-19502 write error on file blockno (blocksize=) Oracle Database Tips by Burleson Consulting February 23, 2015 Question: Has anyone seen this error before? In RMAN I issued: backup database plus archivelog; channel ORA_DISK_1: ora-19502 write error on file blockno (blocksize=8192) starting piece 1 at 17-MAR-07 RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS =============== RMAN-00571: =========================================================== RMAN-03002: failure of backup command at 03/17/2007 12:12:06 ORA-19502: write error on file "4ceve9st_1_1", blockno 67969 (blocksize=8192) What does this error message mean and how can I fix this? Answer: To diagnose any error, you start by usingOra-19502 Write Error On File Ora-27072 File I/o Error
the oerr utility to fully display the ORA-19502 error:
ORA-19502: Write error on file "string", blockno string (blocksize=string) Cause: Write error on output file Action: Check the file This information on ORA-19502 helped to clarify the initial odd-looking message. It's a write error on an output file, just as it says. As a result of the inability to write, it looks like an RMAN backup command failed. In this situation, it turns out the error was an assumption that the location parameter default was set up, but this assumption was not true. Setting the default by issuing a command like the following corrected the problem in this case: configure channel 1 device type disk format '/export/u03/hot_backup/backup_%U'; Get the Complete Oracle SQL Tuning Information The landmark book "Advanced Oracle SQL Tuning The Definitive Reference" is filled with valuable information on Oracle SQL Tuning. Recovery Manager complete. If you review the "disk free" section from the write error on RDA report, the mount point will show as almost full. You can also check this from a df on Linux. The backup will be attempting to write to a larger disk space than is available. The reason for this error is tha there is not enough disk space on the drive to complete the backup. To resolve this error, clean up unnecessary files on the disk, or add disk space to the disk then re-run the backup. Rate this:Share this:TweetMoreEmailPrintLike this:Like Loading...
