I have MSSQL Server installed locally on my lovely MS XP Home Edition system for synching purposes. The server side runs fine. But when I try to have a database alias, from within BDE Admin, communicate with the SQL server, I get:Database Engine Error"Cannot locate or connect to SQL server. trying to create a BDE alias to it. I seemingly have it all configured correctly but I cannot connect to the database; I always get a BDE Error 1277: Cannot locate or connect to SQL server. The problem is that I get this error from the machine that actually hosts the database. I have another system that can connect to the database without any problems. I've compared all of the configuration http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=43881 settings between the two systems and they seem to be the same version of BDE. I've tried changing the SERVER_NAME to . (period) and to the actual IP address but neigher made any difference. Any ideas? I have SBS 2003 bde error SP1 with Windows server 2003 sp1 (it will not allow me to upgrade to SP2 becuase it errors in "cannot find file neccessary..." halfway through the install) Today the computer rebooted on it's own (unknown reason) and when it came back up almost all features of the server (exchange filesharing, DC) worked. SQL even says it is running fine with no errors. NEvertheless when I try to connect the BDE database to SQL it gives me these error numbers: 11277 error bde 11277 [$2C] [$ D] 13059 [$33] [$ 3] SQL Error - 10004 "accessÿá’|_Þöw" I am not a database person at all but I have swam through this in the past with other customers. It sounds like you had some updates that didn't go through, and after today's reboot those updates finally were applied fully. (ala..Do you want to reboot now?..NO then a week and a half later you finally reboot) If my above suspiscion is correct - who knows what updates were applied and what settings couldv'e changed Have you checked that your firewall is configured to let in that traffic? When you say "connect the BDE database to SQL " do you mean connecting to the server from client machines? If not w
