3.0, CRM 4.0, Data Connector, Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Connector for SQL Reporting Services, SQL Server Reporting Services, SSRS. 8 https://sundium.wordpress.com/2009/10/05/troubleshooting-crm-data-connector/ Comments The background: So, I was called in to troubleshoot a CRM https://mscrmonline.wordpress.com/2009/12/07/microsoft-crm-4-0-sql-server-2008-reporting-services-on-the-same-server/ Reporting issue a client had, they had CRM Server front end, SQL Server 2008 + SSRS on the backend server - simple setup. First thing first, CRM Data Connector is just another name (the real name) for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Connector for SQL Reporting Services. A cannot be quick revision and the purpose of the Data Connector From Barry Givens’ post: Reports in CRM 4.0 are running out of this thing called “SQL Reporting Services Report Viewer” which is plainly an ASP.Net control that runs on the CRM 4.0 Web server. So when users view reports in CRM 4.0, they are hitting up a URL on the report cannot the CRM 4.0 Web Server. Because of this, CRM 4.0 reports are always run in a delegated mode, the CRM and SSRS integration has to handle security. This requires us to use integrated authentication and configure trust for delegation between the CRM server, the SSRS server and the SQL server with the CRM database. [Refer to HOW TO: Configure Kerberos authentication for Microsoft CRM 3.0 and Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services and Microsoft CRM 3.0: Additional Setup Tasks Required if Reporting Services Is Installed on Different Server.] MSFT decided to make our life less miserable by shipping this Data Connector with CRM 4.0. It is essentially an SSRS Data Processing Extension and handles all of the delegation for us so that we no longer have to fiddle around Kerberos etc, which wasn’t an option in version 3.0. Right, back to our problem at hand; The symptoms: 1. When users try to run a SSRS report via CRM Web App, they get a 401. 4.0 & Windows Server 2008R2 → Microsoft CRM 4.0 & SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services on the sameserver Posted on December 7, 2009 by Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 was released at the end of 2007, so it worked really well (tested more) on Windows 2003, SQL Server 2005, Small Business Server 2003 environments. However, now a days, I see more and more deployments of Microsoft CRM 4.0 on Windows 2008 R2, Exchange Server 2007/2010, SQL Server 2008, and Small Business Server 2008. I'd recommend reviewing the following Microsoft articles to help: ▪ Support for Microsoft CRM 4.0 on Windows Server 2008 ▪ Support for running Microsoft CRM 4.0 together with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 ▪ Installing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 on Small Business Server 2008 For folks that want to setup an environment in which both Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services are on the same server (for small deployments or test machine) - you may encounter the following error "Publishing CRM reports failed" during the reports installation section (SBS 2008 environments are OK): This is due to Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services NOT relying on IIS for accessing reports. Microsoft KB Article 957053 provide more info on running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 together with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - see Issue 6. On one of our environments, the article suggestions didn't work - it also has Exchange 2010 on it (test server). As a work-around, we created an IIS Virtual Directory in the Default Website (Port 80/443) referencing the "ReportServer" path (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer) which allowed the Microsoft CRM 4.0 installation process to complete successfully: We tested the reports after the installation and
