a type” error? up vote 8 down vote favorite I am developing a dynamic web project (RESTful jersey) under Eclipse IDE. Under src/my/demo/service folder I have CarService.java class public class CarService { ... } Under src/my/demo/controller folder I have UserController.java class import my.demo.service.CarService; public class UserController{ private CarService carService; //ERROR: CarServcie cannot be resolved to a type } I do have imported the CarService, why eclipse give me eclipse cannot be resolved to a type maven the error "CarServcie cannot be resolved to a type" in my UserController.java? --------Edit------------------ I found the cause: for some reason, my.demo.service has the same level as src/ in eclise project explorer view. After I move my.demo.service under src/, it is fine. Seems I should not create new package in "Project Explorer" view in Eclipse... But thank you for your response:) java eclipse share|improve this question edited Apr 7 '11 at 15:07 Reddy 4,09153757 asked Apr 7 '11 at 10:22 Mellon 9,76246139226 Does the CarService class belong to the package my.demo.service, and not just the folder? –Andreas Johansson Apr 7 '11 at 10:25 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 22 down vote u just need go to Project ---> clean See http://philip.yurchuk.com/2008/12/03/eclipse-cannot-be-resolved-to-a-type-error/ share|improve this answer answered Mar 8 '13 at 8:32 Bardelman 64431435 right clicking the project and then clicking on Build Project solved my problem.... –grimlek Jun 10 at 18:43 ___ my life man. the net and doing a Java project. I made a "lib" folder in my eclipse project. eclipse cannot be resolved to a variable Added the necessary JARs to build path. When I try to make a simple "hello world" type of example, I get the same error "cannot @path cannot be resolved to a type be resolved to a type" at many places. Looks like i have to import the JAR files by putting import statements, right ? If yes, then how do i import the JAR files ? Please help me. When you select "new project", Eclipse does most of the setup for you. You then need to add dependent jars to your Java Build Path in the project properties. Eclipse adjusts the .classpath file automatically. I sense you are trying to do too much too quickly, even your comment about "random" examples. Start small, there are in fact a ton of examples in the posts here. I simply copy them to a workspace and help! WP Aniruddh Joshi Ranch Hand Posts: 275 I like... posted 4 years ago Actually Willliam is right, you would not need any external jars for a hello World. Simply create a java project and eclipse will add jre or jdk to your classpath and buildpath. application in Eclipse: The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced http://www.kyleclegg.com/blog/eclipse-android-error-type-cannot-be-resolved from required .class files Solution: In Eclipse, the cause of this problem is that somehow the SYSTEM JRE LIBRARY associated with the project was http://blog.sherifmansour.com/?p=207 deleted. Simple fix in Eclipse: Right Click Project you are working on from Package Explorer Go to Properties Go to Java Build Path from cannot be the right tree structure Go to Libraries Tab Choose Add Library Button Select JRE System Library Hit Next, the Radio button will prompt the Workspace default JRE, and let it be that way Hit Finish Still getting the error, though, in the case of an Android bundle... stay tuned.... cannot be resolved In Projects ← Android requires compiler compliance level 5.0. they were there). I was always getting the message: import ClassName cannot be resolved. Where ClassName was my imported class. I'm using the MyEclipse Workbench 5.5.1 on Eclipse 3.2. Here are a few tips on how you can fix this (some worked for me, some didn't): ‘Clean' Your Eclipse Project: Go to Project > Clean in Eclipse [This seems to work for me] Refresh your project folder (right click on your project > refresh) Re-build your project Clean your builds (If using Ant or Maven - clean your builds) Recreate your project in Eclipse ‘Switch' Workspace - then Switch back (Eg Change to Debug, then switch back to Java) ‘Switch' Workspace - then Switch back (Eg Change to Debug, then switch back to Java) Remove and re-add your JRE: 1. Right Click on your project > properties 2. Click on the Libraries tab 3. Click on the JRE 4. Click remove, then OK 5. Repeat 1-3 again, but add the JRE again Hope at least ONE of those tips help!
