as RAS. There does not seem to be an option to turn off DHCP do I setup a scope of 192.168.57.1-192.168.57.2 with a lease time of 9999 days. Now the main problem occurs when trying https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/888201 to dial into the server remotely. The VPN client returns an error 721. This error typically indicates that the client is talking to the server however it cannot authenticate properly. I have setup port mapping to the server for 1723 and 1701 however it will not connect. Typically enabling ipsec will fix this error however I do not see that option. When I "enable default host" and point it https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1193541?tstart=0 to the server it works however this is not acceptable as is a major security risk as well as limits the ability to forward additional ports to other servers. Windows 7: VPN Gurus: error 721 23 Jun 2010 http://windowsitpro.com/systems-management/15-tips-troubleshooting-vpn-connections #1 BigJohnny Win7 8 posts VPN Gurus: error 721 hi, i wanted to implement a vpn connection using microsoft technology. i enabled ras on the host computer which has win 7. the host computer cannot connect sits behind a di-524 router, so i've enabled pptp pass through and ipsec pass through, moreover, i set a port forwarding for 1723 and 500 (both tcp and udp) to the host computer. from the guest computer, who sits in a different subnet and uses win xp, i used telnet to verify that the host server can be reached, there was no problem reaching it. then i verified the generic routing encapsulation cannot connect to (gre) is set too, so i've used pptpclnt and pptpserv, and gre check complete successfully. still, when i set a vpn dialup connection, i get error 721 (after verifying username and password). any vpn guru can help me here? thanks. Cause: This issue can occur if the network firewall does not permit GRE traffic (IP protocol 47). PPTP uses GRE for tunneled data. Solution: Configure the network firewall between the VPN client and the server to permit GRE. In addition, make sure that the network firewall permits TCP traffic on port 1723. Both of these conditions must be met to establish VPN connectivity by using PPTP. After you construct the VPN, you have to troubleshoot it. A minimal VPN implementation has a RAS PPTP server connected to the Internet, a client connected to the Internet, and a PPTP connection between the server and the client. As long as ISP service or Internet connectivity is available, clients can connect to your server or LAN from anywhere in the world. However, most VPNs aren't as simple as a connected server and client. More often, the VPN server is on a routed LAN segment, often behind a firewall, and the client connection uses an ISP network, which also employs routers and firewalls. You can build a PPTP server as a standalone server or as a domain controller in a couple of steps: You install RAS and the PPTP protocol and configure PPTP ports the same way you configure dial-up connections. Windows NT client setup is equally straightforward: You load PPTP and configure the PPTP connection to locate the PPTP server over the Internet. With such a simple setup, you might assume that the V
