When you try to connect printer from a 64 bit Windows that is windows cannot connect to the printer 0x00000057 shared on 32 bit windows you will get an error message “Windows cannot connect to theBlue Screen Error 0x0000007e
printer Operation failed with error 0x0000007e”. Recently, I had some troubles setting up some network printers on computers running 64-bit. Before going to the technical window cannot connect to the printer in windows 7 description let me figure out my situation. In my I.T department the printer is shared on a 32 bit Windows 7 computer. I installed 64 Windows on my desktop. After the installation I tried to connect the shared printer. I https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/95284883-e9bf-45a8-99ed-43d14483fbd3/printer-cannot-connect-operation-failed-0x0000007e?forum=w7itprogeneral was unable to connect the shared printer since it was on 32 bit. I was getting an error message “Windows cannot connect to the printer Operation failed with error 0x0000007e” I tried different methods windows 7 file and printer sharing; at last I found the simple solution for windows printer sharing. Here are the steps that I followed. Share 32 bit printer 64 bit windows 7 Step 1: Open Start >> Devices and Printers Step 2: Click Add a printer http://www.smartpctricks.com/2013/06/solved-operation-failed-with-error-0x0000007e-share-printer-between-32-bit-and-64-bit-windows-7.html button Select Add a Local Printer Now go for Create a new port, nothing to do for Type of port, keep as it is and click Next. Step 3: You will be asked to provide ‘Port Name’, the format of port address is shown below \\IP Address of the 32 bit PC\Printer name For example our printer is connected to a PC having IP 192.168.1.185 and the printer name is HP LaserJet P2050 Series PCL6 (Copy 1) so my port Name will be \\192.168.1.185\ HP LaserJet P2050 Series PCL6 (Copy 1) Then click OK Step 4: Choose your printer from the directory [Actually our printer is HP LaserJet P2050 but it was not in the directory, hence I choose something similar, that is HP LaserJet P2200] and proceed. Step 5: Provide a Printer name foe the new printer. Step 6: You Successfully added new shared printer…! You can print test page if needed. to the printer.” Details: “Operation failed with error 0x0000007e” There are several solutions for this problem: Solution 1: You can try to connect to the printer, using a local port. To http://www.itexperience.net/2011/02/11/operation-failed-with-error-0x0000007e-when-adding-a-printer/ try this solution, do the following: Install the printer locally on port lpt2 http://ccm.net/forum/affich-818356-printer-error-show-operation-failed-with-error-0x0000007e Open a dos prompt (cmd.exe) and enter the following command: net use LPT2 \\computername\sharedprintername /persistent:yes This is only a workaround, but works for most people. Let’s hope Microsoft can develop a consistent solution in the near future. Solution 2: Some printers require the drivers to be installed before you add the printer in Windows. cannot connect This is the case with some Lexmark printers, as well as some HP Laserjets. When a printer gets a wrong driver assigned (for example a Vista driver instead of a Windows 7 driver), the printer may not connect correctly. To solve this, make sure you download the latest Windows 7 driver from the manufacturer’s website. Solution 3: When you do not have the English language on your cannot connect to Windows 7 machine, you may verify the Language for Non-Unicode. Go to your Control Panel –> Region and Language –> Administrative Click Change system locale Set the Current System Locale to English (United States) Solution 4: Download and install the following hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982728/en-us Follow the instructions on the website I hope that the solutions described above helps for some of you! 0x0000007e network printer printer Windows 7 8 thoughts on “Operation failed with error 0x0000007e when adding a printer” Sharief says: September 25, 2014 at 11:59 am Trying to connect Windows to the network printer and receiving message: operation failed with error 0x0000007e.
