started giving me an error 01 message, and the aperture locks. I unmount and remount the lens and the canon eos 10d manual problem goes for a few frames and then returns. The contacts are clean. Any ideas? Oct 16, 2005 #2 Malcolm_Stewart Well-Known Member Can't remember the error number, but I had

a problem with my cheap EF 80-200 zoom when the aperture blades started failing. Camera spotted the problem first, I cleared the code and shot more frames, with more error messages, and then found the aperture blades "hanging in the breeze". (Never go out with just one lens!) Canon fixed the lens at reasonable cost, and I've got some good shots out of canon eos 10d video it. Oct 16, 2005 #3 Mick_Johnson Well-Known Member David, there are numerous posts about the very same problem with various IS lenses and the 10d, especially the one you have. Most seem to think it's a dirty contact thing but as you say yours are clean I would think it may be as Malcolm says, sticking aperture blades. If you go to dpreview.com and seach for '10d and error 01' you will get a load of results. Also plenty on the Eos forum at photo.net so you may find something. BTW, Canon now have fixed charges to repair lenses no matter whats wrong, eg, a 28-135IS is £120 or was when I rang 12 months ago about mine. I thought the IS had failed but after an hour or two trying everything I could think of found that the camera was still on Bulb from the night before. Mick........ pm Canon EOS 10D Issue - Error 01 #1 Tue Apr 05, 2005 2:10 am Hi chaps, Today I was canon eos 10d owners manual shooting with my 10D mounted with a 100-400 on my monopod. I kept getting Error 01 and the shutter would make a half hearted actuation. I thought nothing of it, but it happened http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/forums/threads/eos-10d-err-01.23142/ again! What is the Error 01 all about. I'm guessing its lens related? Any help of experiences with this problem would be useful! Removing the battery and switching http://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=883691 it back on didn't make any difference. After I removed the lens and cleaned the connectors it worked properly again. Hasn't happed since... When I bought it. I just took of the lens and put on again. Turned off the camera while I did this of course. And the fault never came back. I think it was in November-October I got it. IL76: I have gotten Error 99 a few times, and that helped with replacing the battery with an another. But since I bought my batterygrip in October I have never gotten it again. /Christian If your pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough Top dazultra Posts: 683 Joined: Wed Nov 12, 2003 6:39 am RE: Canon EOS 10D Issue - Error 01 #4 Tue Apr 05, 2005 10:54 am According to the manual, Error 01 means the lens contacts are dirty - so clean em Daz. You may need to remove the internal battery as well, and leave both batteries out for several minutes before refitting and turning on.err99 is a catchall code though and can indicate one of a number of problems. So, if that doesn't work, try cleaning the lens contacts, removing and reseating the grip (if you use one) and cleaning those contacts as well, whilst it is off. That should fix most err99 issues, but some are not fixable without returning the camera to Canon. impressive camera. I’ve shot hundreds of thousands of photos in a wide range of environments with it: low-lit, foggy concerts; weddings; deep woods; windy hills; in air-conditioned homes, blazing-hot football fields, and icy winter storms. Overall I would say that it has impressed me every single day that I have used it. But just a couple weeks ago I started having problems with the camera. Intermittently, it will fail to capture an image but instead flash a "Err 99” message. The only way to get rid of the message was to turn the camera off. At first I ignored it as a simple glitch. But as the problem became a regular issue over the next week, I started doing some research. First I went to Canon’s website for information. Canon’s step-by-step troubleshooter was not helpful as it simply said the solution for Err 99 is to turn the camera off then on, or to reinstall the battery. The issue become more troubling when I searched Google for this issue and found that it is a widespread dilemma. Worse, there is little consensus on what the Err 99 problem is. According to what I have found on the Net, the main cause of the Err 99 problem is dirty contacts between the body and the lens. Most sites recommend cleaning the contacts. I did this with a cloth and cleaner, to no avail. Today I contacted Canon technical support. The lady on the phone said that I may have damaged my camera by using a non-Canon lens. (I have a Tamron 28-75mm lens in regular use). I marveled at this, since the lens has served it well in the last two years. She suggested I mail the camera in to the service center for a quote. I said that if third-party lenses really are dangerous for Canon cameras, Canon ought to warn customers that using those lenses is unhealthy for the camera. She said two things that seemed to co
