You may need to remove the internal battery as well, and leave both batteries out for several minutes before refitting and turning on.err99 is a catchall code though and can indicate one of a number of problems. So, if that doesn't work, try cleaning the lens contacts, removing and reseating the grip (if you use one) and cleaning those contacts as well, whilst it is off. That should fix most err99 issues, but some are not fixable without returning the camera to Canon. Canon Eos 10d Video
Canon EOS 10D and 'err 99' message Hopefully someone can help me out here! I recently purchased the EOS 10D and was having a canon eos 10d driver great time with it until this morning. I attached the Sigma 105mm 2.8EX macro lens to it, and all was ok for a few shots. Then for one shot, the shutter sounded funny, and an error message was displayed 'err 99'. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=973519 The camera would not work until I had removed and replaced the battery. So I tried again, and the same thing after a few shots. And again. And again... I changed the lens to the Canon 28-135mm and all was fine. I have used other Canon lenses with the 10D and all appears to be fine. So, has anyone heard about this and know what the problem is? Is it a camera error, or a lens compatibility issue? I live in England and http://forums.steves-digicams.com/canon-eos-dslr/24410-canon-eos-10d-err-99-message.html bought the Canon from the US, so I probably have no warrnty here either. I'll make sure my next posting is on a more positive note!! Thanks Sponsored Links Apr 24, 2004, 3:07 PM #2 eric s Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2002 Posts: 5,803 How old is the sigma lens? Some sigma lenses need to be changed to work with canon bodies. Canon does not (or people won't pay for it) license their lens mount like nikon does. This means that they have to reverse engineer the lens mount. This results in new camera bodies coming out that break some lenses. Another possability is that the lens was not on all the way or wasn't seated well. Search for "99" on this web site, I recall this topic coming up before. And as I recall, the answer was one I didn't expect. Err 99 stands for a lens communication error. I have the Sigma 105mm f2.8 EX macro as well, and it works wonderfully. I would have to assume that since your body works fine with other lenses, that the microchip in your Sigma lens needs to be replaced. If it is still under warranty, call Sigma

Gepubliceerd op 19 jun. 2014How to fix Error 99 on Canon EOS Rebel XS 1000D DSLRIf you've already tried cleaning your lens contacts, replacing the lens and formatting your memory card without any results then maybe this will help:Step one: Always leave the power switch in the on position.Step two: Set the "auto power off" to OFF or a long time out. Alternately, you can just keep touching the shutter button to prevent auto power off.Step three: Open and close the memory card door by pulling it back and then immediately forward to close.Step four: Begin to shoot. I always click off one photo before setting up for my shot, just to verify that the code has reset.Good luck. Ho

Sadly I couldn't deal with it under warrantee cuz I was shooting in NZ and had to push through with the error 99s. Some weeks it worked perfectly, others not at all; constant error 99's. Finally returned home to take it into canon and they said that the shutter was bad because I had taken over 50,000 photo's...which doesn't seem that much considering I know wedding photographers who take loads more photo's with the camera than I did. But it was going to cost 500$ for parts and labor. Really pissed me off because I had no idea that the shutter life was so short. Also seems odd that it would be a shutter problem if it works perfectly time for weeks on end; and then all of a sudden doesn't work at all, then works again. Seems more like a software error to me. Any thoughts? I've tried all other error 99 solutions - lenses, cleaning, batteries, cards, ect. Is there any cheaper way? I'd rather get a new camera, but if I don't fix it, my 10d is worth nothing. If I fix it, it's prob only worth what it costed in repairs. Some lenses, specifically older Sigma lenses are not up-to-date electronically with Canon digicams, and do cause some problems,
