etc.) and was told to send the camera in for repair. I did, and the estimate has come back at $300.I have a few questions which it'd be cool to have some input on:1. Is this camera http://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/product_ranges/cameras/eos/error_codes/ worth repairing? I mean would I be better getting an new digital SLR body and putting the $300 towards that? How does it hold up to currently available offerings?2. I was using Lexar memory (512mb CF card). Should I get the camera returned and try to buy other cards?Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!Mike Reply to thread Reply with quote Complain Glenn Haley • Senior Member • Posts: 1,219 Re: Error 02 on https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2102860 10D - How to Repair In reply to mmitsch • Sep 20, 2007 I don't know if this would apply to your problem but I have read that some people have reported bent pins in the camera's CF card socket and have correct the problem by carefully straighting them.Glenn Reply Reply with quote Complain hvu • Regular Member • Posts: 341 Re: Error 02 on 10D - How to Repair In reply to mmitsch • Sep 20, 2007 I would save money towards new camera. I myself have 10D and am thinking of moving up to 5D. However, 5D price is out of my hand. So , 40D is second option... Cameras How to Fix Error Code Error 99 on a Canon Eos 10D How to Fix Error Code Error 99 on a Canon Eos 10D By Candace Horgan eHow Contributor Candace Horgan Follow Pin http://www.ehow.com/how_7217729_fix-99-canon-eos-10d.html Share Tweet Share Email Save The Canon 10D is a http://www.camerahacker.com/Canon/D60_Error_Codes.shtml 6.3 megapixel digital SLR with a beefy magnesium alloy body. The 10D was designed for semiprofessional use and uses CompactFlash memory cards. In the course of shooting with a 10D, you may run across an Err99 code that freezes the camera. The Error 99 is a generic error code which means the camera isn't sure what canon eos the problem is. Usually an Error 99 can be fixed at home, but in rare instances you may need to send the camera to a Canon repair facility. Things You'll Need Canon 10D Fully charged BP-511A battery CompactFlash card Sensor or lens cleaning swabs Isopropyl alcohol Pencil eraser Turn the camera off, wait five seconds, then turn it back on and try shooting. If you still get Err99, further troubleshooting canon eos 10d is needed. Troubleshoot the problem by turning off the camera, removing the battery and CompactFlash card and letting the camera sit 20 minutes. Reinsert the battery and CompactFlash card, turn on the camera, and try shooting. If it shoots, you can probably fix it at home. Reformat your CompactFlash card. Deleting images does not remove all traces of the data from the card, and that can cause errors. After inserting the memory card, turn on the camera and press Menu, then scroll to setup and scroll down to Format Memory Card, then press enter. Remove the lens from the camera body and very gently run a pencil eraser over the lens contacts and camera body contacts. Reinsert the lens and try shooting. If you still get Error 99, do a wet cleaning. Remove the lens and dip the swab in the isopropyl alcohol, then rub it on the gold contacts of the camera body and the lens. Tips & Warnings Using the eraser on the contacts can cause premature wear on the surface. Rub the eraser extremely lightly on the contacts when cleaning. A wet cleaning is not damaging to the contacts and is better in the long run. References Richards Notes: Error 99 Shawn Olson Photograph
1D Mark II Canon EOS 1Ds Canon EOS 10D Canon EOS 20D Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) Err 01: LENS COMMUNICATION DESCRIPTION: This error occurs in the following conditions: When electronic communication with the lens cannot be established, after the EOS D60 is powered ON or when the shutter button is pressed halfway. When the lens diaphragm cannot be controlled during shutter release. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Clean the electronic contacts on the lens with a clean, soft, dry cloth and check the mount interface switch on the body's lens mount for dirt or other damage. If this does not solve the problem, try another Canon EF lens or have the EOS D60 examined by a qualified service technician. This error is similar to Error 84 on the D30. Err 02: CF DRIVER DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in the camera or if the D60 does not detect a card-ready signal within a specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera, check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem, then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have the EOS D60 and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined by a qualified service technician. This error is similar to Error 22 on the D30. Err 04: NO SPACE LEFT ON CF CARD DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when the CF card's free space is insufficient for the image file that has been created. For example, when using a nearly full CF card, if a long exposure is made with noise reduction shut off, the file size may become larger than average, resulting in insufficient space to write the file. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Use a CF card with sufficient free space. If this does not solve the problem, have the EOS D60 examined by a qualified service technician. This error is similar to Error 23 on the D30. Err 05: POP UP DESCRIPTION: This error occurs when the built-in flash pop-up operation cannot be detected even after the pop-up operations have been repeated three times. REMEDIAL MEASURE: Try clearing the error by turning the main power switch OFF and then back ON. If this does not solve the problem, have the EOS D60 examined by a qualified service technician.
