Over the course of the weekend I've been seeing a mixture of "No CF", "Full CF" or "Err 02" error messages. It appeared to be completely random and impossible to http://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/11266/is-there-an-easy-fix-for-this-canon-eos-300d-compact-flash-problem track down any common cause, but playing around at home I've just come across a repeatable problem. I have a 4GB and a 32MB CF card. Both have been formatted in the camera. I take 3 raw photos on the 32MB card, it correctly reports that I can't take a 4th photo because the card is now full. I make sure the camera is not writing to the card and switch it off. I replace the 32MB card with the 4GB card and switch it back on. The camera fires up but continues to tell me that the card is full — it has not recognised that the card has been changed. I've tried several other 512MB cards and they all do the same — the camera does not recognise the CF card has been changed — it continues to display the "CF Full" message and a "zero" for the estimated number of shots renaming. In fact if I take the CF card out and switch it on, it still says "CF full" rather than the expected "No CF" message. I've checked the camera CF slot, all the pins are still straight (none bent). Has anyone experienced this before, or throw any light on the problem? Is it just a case that my camera should be placed in a retirement home — if there is a problem then I

You could try putting canon eos 300d it back in and then try reformatting again. It is possible tht your card has gone south on you. started by robcmar, Aug 30, 2007. Aug 30, 2007 #1 robcmar Active Member Have been using the above camera for at least two years without any problems. Yesterday I got the er 02 error message meaning there was a problem with the memory card. I took it to Jessops and tried one of their cards. Unfortunately I didn't have my glasses on so the info I saw in the display I took to mean that the problem was solved with the card so I bought a new one. However, even with the new card it is still saying no cf card in camera. Any ideas what's causing this and is it fixable by me ? Aug 30, 2007 #2 BigWill Gorgeous oversensitive Nikon-loving cream puff Just a wild guess here, but could the card need formatting in the camera? BigWill Aug 30, 2007 #3 robcmar Active Member I thought that would be the solution but when I tried to format it I can't as it still says there's no card in the camera. Bummer! What size of card did you get by the way? I may be mistaken but I think the 300D is limited in the capacity of card it is able to handle and it's possible that if you've bought one that's too big that the camera may not recognise it? BigWill Aug 30, 2007 #5 robcmar Active Member Unfortunately not. I replaced tyhe 256mb with a 512mb so it's not that large. Aug 30, 2007 #6 Fen L None of the pins at the back of the CF slot are bent/damaged are they? Aug 30, 2007 #7 robcmar Active Member They don't look it but it's difficult to be completely certain looking into the slim aperture. Is the card supposed to fit all the way in, the lid closes OK but it seems to me that there is about a fith of the card visible which I suppose could point to bent pins. Aug 30, 2007 #8 BigWill Gorgeous oversensitive Nikon-loving cream puff Are you running the latest firmware version for the camera? If not it might be worth a try "flashing" the firmware to the latest version to see if that solves the problem? BigWill Aug 30, 2007 #9 robcmar Active Member Will download it tonight (mine's 1.1 which can't be the most recent) and also shine a torch into it t
