Canon Eos 400d Error 99
CF Card colin colin 12 697 5 Report Error / Abuse 22 Sep 2007 7:00PM Like 0 Help! My 10 month old Canon 400D has just started giving me CF Error messages all over the place. When I look through the viewfinder the auto focus doesn't work and "Err CF" flashes. The display doesn't always function, but when it does the display screen comes up with "Err CF - There err cf canon rebel xt is a problem with the CF card.Replace the CF Card" When I try and format the CF card, it comes up with "Err 99" I've tried switching CF cards and I still get the same messages. I've even tried to save data from my PC onto the CF cards to makes sure they work and they do, so it seems to me it may be an electronic fault. The shutter will not release. I've tried switching lenses too as I've previously had Err 99 messages and this was cited as the potential problem, but this is different altogether. Has any else experienced this or similar. Its still under warranty so shouldn't be a hassle, but just annoying as it was working fine when I last used it a week ago!! Help! anything like what's happening to me (and the search doesn't seem to be problem with cf card canon 400d working). Apologies if this has already been answered.Got a 400D w/ Lens kit for christmas this year, very nice camera bent pin in cf card slot when you're used to compact digitals. Also with it I got a 2GB CF card which worked fine for a while, then stopped working with the camera (But no problem in my https://www.ephotozine.com/forums/topic/canon-400d---error-reading-cf-card-52831 computer). What happened: Was shooting a few test shots to get the hang of things, then decided to test out the burst fire. The camera took all the shots, but when writing the large amount of data from the burst (about 6 RAW images) the card apparantly failed. The camera then started to display CF Error messages. Using a card reader I was able to copy the https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/26168232 images without any trouble. I cleared the images from the card (deleted the images only, not the folder structure) and tried again, camera still showed CF Error message. The weird part: I can understand a faulty CF card giving CF Errors, but when trying to format the card Err 99 shows up, which I understand to be lens related. The camera works fine with another card (128MB), No errors at all, burst fire works too. I've also tried formatting the first card in my computer (Several times) with no change. The details: Camera: Canon EOS 400D (XTi) Lens: Canon EFS 18-55mm kit lens CF Card 1 (Not working in camera): 2 GB Silicon Power 80x CF Type I CF Card 2 (Working fine): 128 MB I.O DATA CF Type I Battery is fully charged Firmware is latest versionI hope that's all the info needed. Any ideas would be appreciated, I'd say faulty CF card, but the fact that it did work in the camera, and still works in my pc makes me wonder. I've heard that some brands of CF don't like Canon (or vice versa) but I didn't think Silicon Power was one of them.Cheers Craig Reply to

It is a general error. Look inside the card slot at the pins in the bottom - a weakness of the 400D is that these pins get bent. If that is the case then the repair is not too expensive Try the card in a card reader on your PC - you can test to see if it works. That error 99 message above is correct. Pull the lens and very gen

ERR99: The dread of every photographer! No error on any camera is as dreaded as Error 99. If you shoot Canon and haven't seen it yet, you will. Canons certainly aren't any more prone to errors than any other camera brand, but they are a bit notorious for the infamous Error 99. Learn how to fix it now so when it happens, you aren't stuck shooting a wedding without a working camera! In short, ERR99 on your Canon camera is simply a general error. What error, you ask? That is the difficulty with troubleshooting the famous ERR99. Since it is a general error, it gives you nothing to begin with. But have no fear, I've seen the error enough times that I should be able to point you in the right direction. To fix the error, you can certainly call Canon… but I will tell you exactly what they tell you on the phone. First they will ask you to do a clean reboot, then try switching the lens, and then they will ask you to pay to ship the camera to them, wait four weeks without a camera and then cross your fingers that the repair isn't too expensive. Hopefully it won'
