What it means and how to FIX IT! ERR99: The dread of every photographer! No error on any camera is as dreaded as Error 99. If you shoot Canon and haven't seen it yet, you will. Canons certainly aren't any more prone to errors than any other camera brand, but they are a bit notorious for the infamous Error 99. Learn how to fix it now so when it happens, you aren't stuck shooting a wedding without a working camera! In short, ERR99 on your Canon camera is simply a general error. What error, you ask? That is the difficulty with troubleshooting the famous ERR99. Since it is a general error, it gives you nothing to begin with. But have no fear, I've seen the error enough times that I should be able to point you in the right direction. To fix the error, you can certainly call Canon… but I will tell you exactly what they tell you on the phone. First they will ask you to do a clean reboot, then try switching the lens, and then they will ask you to pay to ship the camera to them, wait four weeks without a camera and then cross your fingers that the repair isn't too expensive. Hopefully it won't ge

Gepubliceerd op 19 jun. 2014How to fix Error 99 on Canon EOS Rebel XS 1000D DSLRIf you've already tried cleaning your lens contacts, replacing the lens and formatting your memory card without any results then maybe this will help:Step one: Always leave the power switch in the on position.Step two: Set the "auto power off" to OFF or a long time out. Alternately, you can just keep touching the shutter button to prevent auto power off.Step three: Open and close the memory card door by pulling it back and then immediately forward to close.Step four: Begin to shoot. I always click off one photo before setting up for my shot, just to verify that the code has reset.Good luck. Hope this one works for you. is probably the most boring article I’ve written for LensRentals. (Personally, I like Smashed Front Element the best.) But, I love a good mystery, and I love https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2008/12/canons-error-99-the-man-the-myth/ debunking dSLR “urban legends”. Every so often I run across an online forum http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?14349-Problem-ERR-99-on-Digital-Rebel-XT where someone makes broad statements about Error 99 which I know are incorrect or at least incomplete. As is my practice, I’ve boldly charged into these online gunfights devoid of intellectual ammunition (i.e. facts). And predictably, the intellectual level of the discussions quickly spirals down from “Is not”, “Is so” into canon eos the traditional online-forum sign-offs of “You get Err99 because you’re a bad photographer” and “if you’ve never gotten Err99 you’re obviously not taking many pictures”. Because Canon Corporate apparently believes that releasing no information about a problem makes it go away, there is little factual information to debunk the online myths regarding Err99 unless you really do a lot of digging. Googling Err99, canon eos rebel Canon EOS error codes, etc. brings up several dozen pages of links most of which are the above mentioned “discussions”. There are a few nuggets of truth out there, though. The most complete of these is a multi-year 2,300 post discussion of Err99 problems at Richard’s Notes. There are also a few thoughtful and factual discussions that have taken place in some of the better forums online. After spending far more hours than I intended looking through these sources to settle an online debate, I thought I’d write a summary of what I found and what we’ve experienced here— LensRentals has over 700 Canon lenses and over 50 Canon bodies (as of December 2008), so we have a bit of Err99 experience. The Myths Some of the most common Err99 myths are listed below. Strictly speaking, they are not myths; almost every one is true. The myth part comes from thinking that any one of them is actually the cause of Err99. So: Err99 results from an electronic communication problem between the lens and the camera. Err99 results from using third-party (i.e. Sigma, Tamron, Tokina) lenses. Err99 means that

I'm sort of new to this forum, and I've been on a rampage on the web recently to find a cure for my EOS Digital Rebel XT's feared ERR 99. So far, only one other person seems to have the same problem as me, and they did not find a way to fix it themselves. I had purchased my camera online (buydig.com) about a month ago, along with the lens and accesssories, and was eager to start taking pictures like crazy. And just today, as I was at a friends house, my camera started bugging out with the ERR 99 problem. This ERR 99 is a major pain. After going through every possible website regarding ERR 99, I couldn't find the solution to my particular camera. I did a couple of tests to figure out what was wrong with my camera, including checking the lens-body contacts, removing the CF card, and removing the battery. Lens-Camera Contacts, FAILED Remedy First off, I tried the lens contacts remedy. I highly doubt that that's the case because I had never before taken my lens off. The only time before the body and the rear of the lens was exposed to the air was when I first put attached them together. And I am also using a Canon Lens (EF 28-105 USM II). So I tried wiping the contacts correctly, put the lens back on, shot one picture, and the ERR 99 message popped up again... CF Card Removal, FAILED Remedy Second, I tried removing and replacing the CF card - maybe it's the CF card's fault. Click on, focus, aim, shoot, ERR 99. Even without the CF card, the ERR 99 still pops up. Battery CF Card, Lens Removal, FAILED Remedy Next, I tried removing the battery, CF card, and lens, waited a couple of moments, reinserted them, a
