Yes No Voted Undo Score 5 Cancel Comments: May be a canon eos bit late but I have just bought a 300d spares or repair so I could fix my own one.The one I bought for spares was doing the err 99 thing.I could hear that the shutter was not opening so took the lens off and took a look inside to discover that the soft shutter material was kinked in one corner.I then carefully using a cotton bud (Q-TIP) gave it a bit of a nudge in the corner and to my pleasure it slotted back canon eos 30d in camera fixed.. Hope that has helped somebody. 11/06/2014 by steve My eos 300d, that I bought to fix, would go in to rapid fire mode until I took the battery off. I ended up opening the camera and removing the shutter curtains (I think they were jamming or failed in some form) now the camera works fine and takes a picture. The lack of shutter curtains doesn't bother me much as I only use the camera for long exposure astrophotography. Not bad for £20. 11/07/2014 by challenger3000 Thanks to the comments posted here, I found a dog hair from our bassett had managed to jam the shutter. Removed the dog hair, put the bassett down, problem solved!!!! 01/22/2015 by Paul Henderson i have cannon 300d... all things are ok... but when i press the click button error 99 shown on the screen but the picture is taken in the gallery... Forum Home >> Photography >> Canon Error 99 - shutter and motor assembly replacement after just 2 years? 12of 2Displaying 1 to 20 of 21 matches. stockwerkPosted Fri Feb 26, 2010 7:59AM Last week my Canon EOS 40D stopped shooting with an error 99. So I brought it in to repair. Today I learned that the shutter assembly and the motor assembly for the mirror need to be replaced. Total cost is about half the original cost of the camera body. I've shot a little over 9'000 exposures and the camera is not quite two years old. This is my first DSLR, so I'm wondering if such serious failures are to be expected. I'd love to here from some of the more seasoned shooters around here how long their bodies lasted. - lupuWhitewayPosted Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:09AMMy 40D is still going well after 10s of thousands of shots. I'm surprised that you had to pay so much for a repair, since I believe the 40D is supposed to be good for an average 100,000 actuations. Less than 10% of that total sounds like a raw deal, and I'd be pretty hacked off with that level of performance.stockwerkPosted Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:21AM ^ I'm also finding it hard to swallow. However, as I am still quite new to this, I'm lacking some points of reference of what can typically be expected. You've provided one and I thank you for it.kickstandPosted Fri Feb 26, 2010 8:28AMYou might find it interesting to read this question-and-answer thread by a Canon repair technician. It doesn't really answer your question, but you might find it interesting anyhow. (Edited on 2010-02-26 08:31:58 by kickstand) YinYangPosted Fri Feb
