up gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-fforce-mem' up vote 4 down vote favorite I am trying to compile libmad for my Raspberry Pi on Pidora which uses the armv6hl architecture. However when running make on the libmad source I send up with the error: gcc: error: unrecognized command line option '-fforce-mem' any ideas as to how to fix this or get round

the issue that would be great! If you need any more information just let me know. c++ gcc compiler-errors raspberry-pi share|improve this question asked May 30 '13 at 12:12 Zac Powell 90812149 -fforce-mem was removed in gcc 4.3 –devnull May 30 '13 at 12:18 ok, so how would I go about sorting this, if i removed it from the make would it still build ok or can i have gcc ignore it or? –Zac Powell May 30 '13 at 12:20 It was an optimization option; guess it can be safely removed. –devnull May 30 '13 at 12:21 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote accepted As commented by devnull, -fforce-mem was removed in gcc 4.3 (see gcc's -fforce-mem option). You should either: Use a newer version of you library, that does no use this flag anymore Edit yourself the makefile/configuration files by removing every reference to this option. If the makefiles of this library are well designed, this should be easy. Since -fforce-mem as no effect in GCC since a long time, this
by gcc, the driver program of the GNU Compiler Collection, whose C compiler and assembler are used here. This program is called either by tigcc or by the IDE. tigcc simulates some of these gcc command line example options itself, namely '-E', '-S', and '-c', and it also has some additional ones.
Fstack-protector-strong
In the IDE, there is an item in the project settings where you can set the options described here, with some unrecognized command line option fstack protector strong exceptions, including the switches mentioned above. TIGCC normally does preprocessing, compilation, assembly and linking all in one step, and finally produces a file which is executable on the calculator. The "overall options" allow you to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/16835803/gcc-error-unrecognized-command-line-option-fforce-mem stop this process at an intermediate stage. For example, the '-c' option says not to run the linker. Then the output consists of object files output by the assembler. Other options are passed on to one stage of processing. Some options control the preprocessor and others the compiler itself. Yet other options control the assembler and linker; most of these are not documented here, since you rarely need to use http://tigcc.ticalc.org/doc/comopts.html any of them. In fact, only those options which may be more or less useful with TIGCC are mentioned here (although we didn't check whether all of them are really usable in TIGCC). For more info about standard options that are recognized by the compiler, read the official manual. We suggest that you use the '-O2' switch in all of your compilations; it increases speed and decreases the program size at the cost of compilation time. tigcc accepts options and file names as operands. Many options have multi-letter names; therefore multiple single-letter options may not be grouped: '-dr' is very different from '-d -r'. You can mix options and other arguments. For the most part, the order you use doesn't matter. Order does matter when you use several options of the same kind; for example, if you specify '-L' more than once, the directories are searched in the order specified. Many options have long names starting with '-f' or with '-W' - for example, '-fforce-mem', '-fstrength-reduce', '-Wformat' and so on. Most of these have both positive and negative forms; the negative form of '-ffoo' would be '-fno-foo'. This manual documents only one of these two forms, whichever one is not the default. Most of the command line options that you can use with GCC are useful for C programs; when an option is only useful with another language (usually C++), the explanation says so explicitly. If the description for a particular option does not mention a source language, you can use that option with all supported languages. See section Compiling C++ unrecognized command line Programs, for a summary of special options for compiling C++ programs. The protoize0 program accepts options and file names as operands.
