code 2). The general form of the whole error message is cl : Command line error Dnumber : text The message is written to standard error. Note however, that unless CL detects /E, /EP, /P or /Zg on its command line, it eventually duplicates standard output as standard error. In practice then, errors that occur sufficiently early (most notably during command-line analysis) are reported to whatever file or device CL was given as standard error, but errors that occur later are reported to whatever file or device CL was given as standard output. This https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa244326(v=vs.60).aspx behaviour seems to be undocumented, but knowledge of it is important if depending on command-line redirection for capturing CL error messages to a file. The table below lists the command-line errors that CL is known to be capable of issuing in version 13.00.9466. Text for each error message is reproduced from the corresponding resource string in the executable, with placeholders resolved as much as possible in http://www.geoffchappell.com/studies/msvc/cl/cl/errors/index.htm the style of the product documentation. Error numbers that the product documentation does not list among the Command-Line Errors D2000 Through D4028 are highlighted yellow. One error, D2028, that is listed by the product documentation does not appear below, in the belief that CL has no code for producing it. network paths. I am experiencing some weird problems when trying to command line compile using nmake and Visual C++. The program to be made has a few hundred source files and associated header http://computer-programming-forum.com/79-vc-debugger/0117d74fac6ceec9.htm files in both C and C++. At some random point in the compilation the compiler "cl.exe" crashes out with the following error: << Command line error D2030 : INTERNAL COMPILER ERROR in 't:\msdev\4.2\bin\CL.EXE' https://beta.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/os2ddprog/search/messages?advance=true&am=CONTAINS&at=email:Vitus_Jensen@&dm=IS_ANY&fs=false&count=10 Please choose the Technical Support command on the Visual C++ Help menu, or open the Technical Support help file for more information where the following command was called: << cl.exe /nologo /MTd command line /W3 /Gm /GX /Zi /Od /I ".\." /I ".\Common" /I "c:\msdev\include" /I "s:\x86\r700\inc5\work\pcdm\std\include" /D _DEBUG" /D "NT" /D DBREL=700 /D "WIN32" /D "_WINDOWS" /D "WIN" /D "DSPBLD" /D "_MBCS" /D "XVT_INCL_NATIVE" /Fr".\WinDebug/" /Fp".\WinDebug/DSPBLD.pch" /YX /Fo".\WinDebug/" /Fd".\WinDebug/" /c .\Common\alphanum.c All the paths are set up correctly, and the batch file works fine on a local drive without any network paths. All the files compile fine under MSDEV, but anyone of them command line error can cause this error on the command line. The files are normally compiled in MSDEV on the local drive, but in this case, we wish them to compile on a network drive. Has anyone encountered this type of problem (or even the error message) before? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ashley.
