Thought it was a Comcast issue. It wasn't.Couldn't figure out what was causing

the problem until I found others experiencing the same problem online: https://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/outgoing_messages_not_going_anywhere_plain_timeout_or_nb_connect_error_1460Apparently, Avast is still using port to 25 to send emails that it's scanned (?) ... even when we specifically say to use a different port. As a Comcast user and an Avast user the only way I can get my outgoing emails to send is by turning off Avast's outgoing scan function. Avast tech 421 cannot connect to smtp server connect error 10060 people please check into this issue. I'd like to be able to scan my outgoing emails again. Incoming emails are not an issue.Thank you. After I have asked him a few questions necessary to better understand the status of the problem and where does it originated I have come to the conclusion that it's very likely that his outgoing SMTP port (25) outgoing TCP/IP traffic passing through the Internet Service http://www.pc-freak.net/blog/what-causes-the-421-cannot-connect-to-smtp-server-error-and-a-quick-work-around/ Provider is filtered. When the 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server problem occured, he was actually in his parents house provided with an internet connection through a BTC ADSL see BTC (Vivacom)'s ADSL page for reference I have instructed my friend to try connecting to the SMTP (25) port of the questionable email server using window's telnet client i order to check if my assumption that the outoging SMTP 25 port traffic is filtered. I instructed him to issue a command like which is so common this days and it's not news to the Sysadmins out there: cmd> telnet mail.server.net 25 This prooved my theory that the 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server was caused by a filtered traffic on the outgoing network STMP port (25). Some Internet Providers out there has that annoying practice of filtering the outgoing SMTP connections, because they couldn't deal with infected Windows computers who start acting as a SPAM networks in another more clever way, however I should admit this is pretty dumb, since it creates numerous problems to the end user like in this particular case. spent the past month learning how to setup an unmanaged VPS on my own...but there's one thing I can't figure out. I've searched for and read everything I could, but nothing I try seems to work. I don't know what I'm missing. When trying to send email through Outlook, I get the error message: "421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 173.0.48.122 (173.0.48.122:25), connect timeout', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67" error." Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated! This is the only thing I have left to finally have a fully functioning VPS Here's some info that hopefully will help: * I am using Webmin w/ Postfix & Dovecot * Debian 5 OS * I don't have iptables set up yet, so all ports should be open. netstat -tap Code: Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN 12039/master tcp 0 0 *:imaps *:* LISTEN 1362/imap-login tcp 0 0 *:pop3s *:* LISTEN 9481/pop3-login tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:10025 *:* LISTEN 12039/master tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:mysql *:* LISTEN 11805/mysqld tcp 0 0 *:pop3 *:* LISTEN 9481/pop3-login tcp 0 0 *:imap2 *:* LISTEN 1362/imap-login tcp 0 0 *:www *:* LISTEN 15758/apache2 tcp 0 0 *:webmin *:* LISTEN 13684/perl tcp 0 0 theadultindustry:domain *:* LISTEN 28260/named tcp 0 0 localhost.locald:domain *:* LISTEN 28260/named tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN 1413/sshd tcp6 0 0 [::]:domain [::]:* LISTEN 28260/named tcp6 0 0 [::]:ftp [::]:* LISTEN 19664/proftpd: (acc tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN 1413/sshd netstat -l Code: Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 *:smtp *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:imaps *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:pop3s *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:10025 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 localhost.localdo:mysql *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:pop3 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:imap2 *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:www *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:webmin *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 theadultindustry:domain *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 localhost.locald:domain *:* LISTEN tcp 0 0 *:ssh *:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 [::]:domain [::]:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 [::]:ftp [::]:* LISTEN tcp6 0 0 [::]:ssh [::]:* LISTEN udp 0 0 *:10000 *:* udp 0 0 theadultindustry:domain *:* udp 0 0 localhost.locald:domain *:* udp6 0 0 [::]:domain [::]:* udp6 0 0 [::]:talk [::]:* udp6 0 0 [::]:ntalk [::]:* Active UNIX domain sockets (only servers) Proto RefCnt Flags Type State I-Node Path unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 652073400 /var/run/saslauthd/mux unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LISTENING 674373607 /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd/mux unix 2 [ ACC ] STREAM LIS
