Copy Protection Error The Read Failed Because The Sector Is Encrypted
to copy contents of a Copyrighted DVD. It is because of a Method called Content Scramble System (CSS) which is used to encrypt the DVD's to prevent their contents from being copied.
Copy Protection Removal
A little History, CSS is a Digital Rights Management (DRM) system employed on almost all commercially produced DVD-Video discs and was developed primarily by Matsushita and Toshiba, introduced in 1996. CSS utilizes a proprietary 40-bit stream cipher algorithm. However, in October 1999, the CSS algorithm was cracked and posted on the Internet, triggering endless controversies and legal battles Not much has changed since that time as the manufacturers of copy protection software DVD players and the producers of DVDs have to maintain compatibility with the vast amount of material released and changing and adding to this encryption scheme would render a lot of current titles unplayable. The computer program capable of decrypting content on a commercially produced DVD video disc is called DeCSS Enough Jibber - Jabber, I own the DVD and i want a Backup….what do i do ?? OK, To the point…to do so we are going to use a freeware Software called " DVD Shrink " [ See Wikipedia Link here ] DVD Shrink is a free software application that allows you to backup your DVD disks. You can use this software in conjunction with DVD burning software of your choice, to make a backup copy of any DVD video disk. I have been trying to copy a particular DVD. I am fairly new to the business of copying movies and have managed http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/1888-copy-protection-error/ so far just by using dvd shrink. I have a DVD here that seems to be impervious to all attempts to clone it. Looking on the internet I came across reference to DVD Decrypter and proceeded to download and research how its used. ...no good for this DVD. From there I went to DVD Fab Decrypter....again no success. I have now tried imgburn and still it remains stubbornly out of reach. As soon as it gets to the point where it starts to build I get a message...............Cannot read from file D:\video_ts\vts_01_0/vob Reason: Copy Protection Error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted. I am beginning to assume that this DVD has a new encryptions that no one is yet able to crack. I've been converting films to dvdr for a months now with no problems and this the first time i've tried to rip a DVD. I'm trying to backup a copy of Stuart copy protection Little 2 to dvdr. I've read the guide on doom9 for dvd shrink and every thing seemed fine until i come to decrypt/ backup. I get an error message saying 'copy protection error' and 'I/O device error'. I'm just trying to rip the film to my hard drive in video_ts files so i can burn them after. Any help on the problem would be much appreciated, thanks Quote 9th May 200414:14 #2 budz View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message DVD copy protection error Ninja Join Date : Jan 2003 Location : In the shadows..... Try playing the dvd in your computer first with power dvd or whatever program you have that can playback dvd movies. Sometimes playing the movie for a few seconds will unlock the copy encryption on the movie. Then try using DVD SHRINK. You can also use DVD DECRYPTER to RIP in FILE mode then use DVD SHRINK to shrink it. I went back to using 3.0 beta, with no problems. Try an older version of shrink as mentioned, most people are using v3 Beta 5. Or get N2000... I bet youre using XP. Thanks for the help, much appreciated
