Mixing Techs needed replacement workstations BADLY. After researching and discussing cost and roll-out details with management, I went with 16 Dell OptiPlex 9020's for deployment over the span of about a week. New Server Room and Wiring Manufacturing company moved to new location and needed all new network setup. IN THIS DISCUSSION Join the Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. It starts at 1:02 am and stops http://www.michael-thomas.com/tech/msiis/iis_error_dcom_http500.htm at 2:02 am every night. The message comes up approximately 2,000 times in that one hour time period. The server that it is happening on is running MS Server 2000 SP4. The messages started a few dcom got weeks back and occur every night in that specific time period. The account that the message is referring to is my account. I have admin level privelages on the network, though I have not, nor anyone else in the company installed anything that would be trying to logon with my account. I looked at all the services on the server and none of them are configured to use my account name to run. This dcom got error is the error (obviously, I didn't put in my account name or the domain name). At this point I have a feeling it might be a virus/spyware or something malicious, but I would like to exhaust all other possibilities before I proceed. DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon 'Domain Name\Administrator Name' in order to run the server: {B2B30542-D976-11D3-B188-0040056AC398} jackknob 3 posts since Nov 2005 Newbie Member windows-nt-2000-xp 0 chris5126 26 10 Years Ago It might be to do with your lease this is just a stab in the dark but have heard of this problem before and this resolved it, same symptons. 0 antioed 53 10 Years Ago Not necessarily related but it sure looks like it could be and sheds some light on the nature of the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;255770 0 Fulgor 9 Years Ago I am actually running into the same problem. Solution Run the following script: D:\Inetpub\AdminScripts>cscript synciwam.vbs (Note: This vbs file and others are installed with IIS - maybe an install option - not sure.) Comments in synciwam.vbs ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ' ' IWAM account synchronization utility ' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ' Description: ' ------------ ' This admin script allows you to update the launching identity of ' all IIS COM+ application packages that run out of process. ' ' There are certain operations that may cause the IWAM account, which ' is the identity under which out of process IIS applications run, to ' become out of sync between the COM+ data store and IIS or the SAM. ' On IIS startup the account information stored in the IIS Metabase ' is synchronized with the local SAM, but the COM+ applications will ' not automatically be updated. The result of this is that requests ' to out of process applications will fail. ' ' When this happens, the following events are written to the system ' event log: ' ' Event ID: 10004 Source: DCOM ' DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. ' Other Info This morning when I was notified of the HTTP 500 error on ws005, I found DCOM error on the event log, further, researching that DCOM error, I found many articles suggesting to resync the IWAM User Account for a possible resolution.
