The blue screen looks like the following: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Windows 7 freezing on "Starting Windows" Started by Shroomism , May 19 2010 02:44 AM This topic is locked 4 replies to this topic #1 Shroomism Shroomism Members 3 posts OFFLINE Local time:10:29 AM Posted 19 May 2010 - 02:44 AM Ok I'm about to go crazy here. Backstory:The other day my desktop disappeared (went black), all the icons were still there and everything was working as normal but I couldn't load a picture on the desktop. (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit) So I googled black screen and came across this "fixshell.exe" Prevx posted - http://www.prevx.com/blog/140/Black-Screen...sta-and-XP.htmlI followed the instructions, restarted, downloaded it.. and stupidly just ran it without checking it and with my antivirus turned off. I followed the instructions and restarted, and that's when my windows broke. And I don't know how to reverse it.PROBLEM: It would get to the "Preparing your Desktop" phase, the screen goes black, flashes 2 or 3 times, and then goes right back to the "Preparing your Desktop" screen, goes black, repeat forever. I could only boot in safe mode and I changed a few things and now it's just getting to the "Starting Windows" screen, with the Win 7 icon, and freezing there. It's now been about 24 hours, I've tried the following things (and probably a few more I forgot) I'd like to mention that a reformat/reinstall is a last case scenario, backing up data is hard as the CD burner does not work and no external drive, and no windows recovery disk. That in mind, I've tried the following things:- unpluggin
