I contacted Microsoft Live Support, they emailed me quickly. Please friends read the below email (J FYI) To troubleshoot this issue, I suggest we first perform these steps: Step 1.Check Windows Update related services ==================== 1. Click Start->Run, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 2. In the right pane, please check whether the following four services have been started: Background Intelligent Transfer Service If not, please double click the service. In the tab "General ", make sure the "Startup Type" is "Automatic". Then please click the button "Start" under "Service Status" to start this service. Can we start this BITS service? If not, please use Step 2 to repair BITS service. Step 2.Repair BITS service ====================== 1. Click Start, click Run, type: Inf and press Enter. A folder will be opened. 2. Locate the file "qmgr.inf" in the opened folder (you can type au to locate this file), right click on the file and choose "Install". Note: The file extension ".inf" may be hidden; we may only see the file named "qmgr". 3. The setup process will try to restore the registry branches automatically. You may not receive any notification. However, if some files cannot be located automatically, we will be prom
Service will not start Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is a service built into Windows that transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth. It basically acts as a download manager for Windows Update and other services by being http://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/background-intelligent-transfer-service-will-not-start/ able to resume from broken or partial downloads. If you are having problems with downloading Windows updates because BITS will not start or is giving errors, there are a couple of ways you can try to http://www.sqlabs.com/blog/2012/02/odbc-driver-on-windows-64bit-clarification/ fix the issue. If you are getting any of these errors, read on: Background intelligent transfer service did not start properly Background intelligent transfer service will not start Background intelligent transfer service has stopped working If BITS error 126 can’t be started for some reason, first make sure it is enabled in the Services control panel applet. Go to Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and click on Services. Make sure that Background Intelligent Transfer Service is set to Automatic or Manual as the startup type. If it’s not set to Manual or Automatic, then double-click on it and change the startup type to either one of these. If the service specified module could is configured correctly, but BITS will still not start up properly, check to make sure none of the dependent services are disabled. Again, go through the list of services and make sure all of the following are set to Automatic or Manual: Terminal Services, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), System Event Notification, Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extensions, COM+ Event System, DCOM Server Process Launcher If all of the services are correctly configured, you can try to delete and reset the download queue by deleting the following two files: %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr0.dat %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr1.dat Now try to start the BITS service by going to the command prompt and typing in net start bits. This will reset the BITS transfer queue and hopefully allow the service to start properly. If not, then continue reading! If you are running Windows Vista and you cannot start the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, you can download the BITS Repair Tool to fix any problems corrupted BITS files. This tool by Microsoft tries three different methods to reset BITS on Vista. You can also check to make sure that a missing DLL file is not preventing BITS from starting properly. Go to Start, Run and type in the following command: depends.exe %windir%\system32\qmgr.dll The Windows Dependency Walker will pop up and you will get an error message
a Jonathan Monroe suggestion I posted this comment few minutes ago, but it's very important so it deserves a separated post: In order to use ODBC with a 32-bit application (such as MS Office) on 64-bit Windows, you have to install the 32-bit driver. In order to configure a DSN for the 32-bit driver, you have to use the 32-bit ODBC Administrator, located at: c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe A DSN configured using the default 64-bit ODBC Administrator will not be recognized by 32-bit applications. More information about this situation is available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms712362(v=vs.85).aspx It is important to understand that you have to use the 32-bit ODBC Administrator on 64-bit Windows if you want to use the driver with MS Office or any other 32-bit application. (cubeSQL ODBC, C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\cubeod32.dll). I get this error from VS 2010, Excel 2007 and RealBasic 2011R4. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Both drivers are installed on my machine. Why would the error message have two slashes after SysWOW64? Regards, jharris Reply jharris says: February 28, 2012 at 5:13 pm Also I have looked in the SysWOW64 folder and there is no cubeod32.dll. jharris Reply Brandon says: February 29, 2012 at 3:58 am Same here… I am have no luck using MS Access 2007 on Window 7 64bit. I have installed 32bit and 64bit driver. I have successfully configured a system DNS using c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe but then when I try to connect to it using MS Access I get the exact same error as jharris listed above…"Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126: The specified module could not be found. (cubeSQL ODBC, C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\cubeod32.dll)." I have tried to used odbcad32.exe to configured a file DNS but I can't get that to work. Didn't know if it would help anyway. On the bright side, odbcad32.exe seems to successfully connect to cubeSQL but I wish I could get it to work with MS Access 200.7 Reply Brandon says: March 2
