Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Advertisement deleahrium Thread Starter Joined: Jul 27, 2008 Messages: 9 I receive an error code every time I start up my computer: Could not load the target dll ("C:\ProgramFiles\BackWeb\BackWebClient\6.2.3.66\Program\BackWeb.dll", error code 126) However, this "BackWeb" directory does not exist on my computer. I recently allowed someone access to my computer for a time and came home to it being full of popups/errors etc, so I did a thorough clean with AVG and TrendMicro, and now no longer receive any virus notifications in scans. Registry errors and spyware still come up though, which I am continuing to try to take care of with CCleaner, Ad-aware, and Spybot S&D. Now, pretty much the only problem is that certain webpages simply will not load, while others will. I was told this was probably a corrupted .dll file, and considering the error message, it seems likely. I have been told that reinstalling my OS is the best course of action, but I'd really like to avoid that if possible. I do want to get rid of anything malicious on my computer though. Thanks for any help! In Autoruns go to 'Options' and check 'Hide Microsoft entries'. Click on the 'Logon' tab and check for any item that has the address of the error message and uncheck it. Also check the 'Boot Execute' tab. kniht, Jul 27, 2008 #2 deleahrium Thread Starter Joined: Jul 27, 2008 Messages: 9 No luck so far-- nothing looks anything remotely like the error message. deleahrium, Jul 27, 2008 #3 kniht Joined: May 7, 2006 Messages: 1,763 Click on the 'Everything' tab in Autoruns and che

Hi, The general thought on this is to get rid of BackWeb! Some consider it spyware I don't really know it myself. If you don't use (or don't know you use!) BackWeb then remove it - otherwise the error will persist, sorry. I hope this helps. Let us know how you get on. Is this something I need to remove from my system and error 126 backweb.dll please advise me how to do it. 2 1/2/2005 (4:00 pm) by Ray Bay Ray Bay (3949 Posts) I consider Backweb client as spyware. SP-2 installed a firewall which blocked it. You can allow it to install by turning off the firewall. Backweb is a tool that software vendors incorporated into their product to download data (e.g. product updates) to the userss PC. Its operation depends on the instructins given to it by the individual software vendor who bundles it. While this software has been neither exhonorated nor convicted of malice, some aspects of its installation and operation appear suspect. It is widely associated with the appearance of advertisements. More information is available at www.cexx.org/digli.html or if you want to remove it, try spyware such as www.2-spyware.com/remove-backweb-client.html but it may give you trouble in its half-installed state. You might want to turn off the firewall, let it complete its partial install, then if you worry about it, remove it with one of several spyware programs. Some will charge you a fee for the honor.

If you find that file there you may also find the directory path, so go there and check that problem Hope this works Good luck!
