I'm not sure how it happened, but my printing abilities stopped suddenly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my HP psc750 software and http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-update/error-2-spooler-not-runningcant-print/066291f3-1cc4-43a1-9254-023f84729bf0 drivers but the installation keeps failing to complete. Further research shows me that the Print Spooler is stopped in the Computer Management/Service console. When I attempt to start the print spooler service, the following error message pops up: "Could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/122437-45-system-find-print-spooler-service the file specified." Services shows the spoolsv.exe file at: C:\Windows\System32\spoolsv.exe My Norton AntiVirus reports that the file is clean, however I keep getting the message that the file cannot be found While I'd like to know just where my Print Spooler file has gone, I REALLY would like to know how to find/repair/reinstall the missing file(s) so I am able to print again. Data: Using XP Home w/SP1 and SP2 installed. Any/all help will most Joyfully be accepted (and would get my wife off my back as she REALLY needs to print some important documents!!) Cause Missing Print Spooler File The missing file is the "spoolsv.exe" and should be located in the system cannot find following location: C:\WINDOWS\system32 There are three options you can consider. The first is to copy the spoolsv.exe from a Windows XP CD and paste it in the following directory: C:\WINDOWS\system32 The second option is to simply copy it from another Windows XP computer and paste that file in the following location: C:\WINDOWS\system32 The third option is to simply download the file from this website, simply click the link spoolsv.exe Once the above is complete, the service must be started right click my computer, click manage, on the left click services and applications, click services. on the right side, look for print spooler, double left click on it, select start, close the system services window. It told me to restart so I restarted, which did not start the Print Spooler. I went to manage services and tried to start the Print Spooler, where it gave me "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." I looked up its properties, where I found that it is set to Automatic. The Print Spooler depends on Remote Procedure Call (RPC), and hpdj00 depends on the Print Spooler. HP deskjet 5700 series was my old printer. I already uninstalled all of the HP Deskjet and Officejet software using its uninstallers, and I force uninstalled it all again using RevoProUninstaller. After the uninstalling and restarting, I still cannot start the Print Spooler, and continue to see the hpdj00 dependency and Error 2. I can think of two possible explanations: 1. In uninstalling the HP printer software and deleting the leftover folders, I accidentally deleted a Print Spooler file that I need. Everything can be reinstalled from the HP CD or restored from the recycle bin, so this should be reversible. 2. Some piece of HP printer software is STILL on my computer, disabling the Print Spooler. I have an HP Pavillion a1101n, Windows XP Home SP3. The HP printer programs I uninstalled are: HP PSC & OfficeJet 4.7 HP Deskjet 5700 Series HP Deskjet Printer Preload Thank you!
