A really weird request... I have on hand a really old 250 GB lacie External HD. I mounted it and edited it fine on my mac, but a slight burp and it only recognized on my Ubuntu. =( Sad to say, I'm more than happy to reformat this sucker and start over... thing is... mount it with hpmount probably fixes it (I'm guessing). Anyway, the offending partition was on /dev/hdc7 (in https://www.mail-archive.com/yellowdog-general@lists.terrasoftsolutions.com/msg02271.html my case), mounted at /mnt/macosx. So, to unmount it (since it's auto-mounted at boot): umount /mnt/macosx hpmount /dev/hdc7 mount /dev/hdc7 /mnt/macosx -t hfsplus Read-write is back!
