Error 2 While Executing Fsck.reiserfs
11 posts by sdjf » Mon Dec 17, 2012 2:38 pm How do I check the file system on media that is vfat format? Other Linux systems have fsck.vfat, but it does not appear to be on the Pi? I do prefer ext file systems but since my flash memory cards and sticks also need to be read by my PDA, I need to leave them as vfat since if the PDA crashes during read.write operations, ext2 and ext3 file systems seem to get corrupted much more seriously than the vfat. The following is what I get when I try to mount and then fsck a 4 GB stick.[root@alarmpi ~]# mount /dev/sda1mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so[root@alarmpi ~]# fsckfsck fsck.ext4 fsck.reiserfsfsck.cramfs fsck.ext4dev fsck.xfsfsck.ext2 fsck.jfsfsck.ext3 fsck.minix[root@alarmpi ~]# fsck /dev/sda1fsck from util-linux 2.21.2fsck: fsck.vfat: not foundfsck: error 2 while executing fsck.vfat for /dev/sda1[root@alarmpi ~]# I really do not want to have to eject the media from the Pi and move it to another Linux system to do this, it is something that the Pi should be able to do. If I am having trouble mounting a device, I ought to be able to debug the situation directly on the Pi. I hope not, but I

We have already written about ext2/ext3 file repair using fsck and other utilities. Linux comes with different filesystems and different repair utilities. To repair a ReiserFS filesystem you need to run reiserfsck command, which is a checking tool for the ReiserFS filesystem (just https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=25939&p=449901 like fsck command for ext2/ext3 file system).Reiserfsck searches for a Reiserfs filesystem on a device, replays any necessary transactions, and either checks or repairs the file system. ReiserFS saves data or log in a special file for pending disk updates and later on it commit updates to disk resulting into very good filesystem consistency.Step # 1: Install reiserfsckYou need to install reiserfsprogs package, which includes reiserfsck user level tools for ReiserFS http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/repairing-reiserfs-file-system-with-reiserfsck.html filesystems. # apt-get install reiserfsprogsOr if you are using RedHat/Fedor Core Linux: # yum install reiserfsprogsStep # 2: Backup partition/diskTake system down to runlevel 1. # init 1Unmount /dev/sda1 (if it is still mounted as read/write only): # umount /dev/sda1; umount /dev/sda2Before using any one of the following command you are strongly advised to make a backup copy of the whole partition using dd or ddrescue (recommended) command. # ddrescue /dev/sda /dev/sdbOR use dd command: # dd if=/dev/sda of=/dev/sdb conv=noerrorStep # 3: Check filesystem consistencyAbove command makes a backup of your drive. Next check filesystem consistency which will reports problem to you with the following command (assuming that /dev/sda1 is your partition): # reiserfsck --check /dev/sda1If you get an error Bad root block 0If you get following message: Running with -rebuild-tree is requiredThen you need to run following command rebuilds the entire filesystem tree using leaf nodes found on the device (this is nothing but indication of corrupted : # reiserfsck --scan-whole-partition --rebuild-tree /dev/sda1Where,-scan-whole-partition: This option causes -rebuild-tree to scan the whole partition but not only the used space on the partition. You should always use this option with -rebuild-tree.-check: Checks filesystem consistency and reports, but does not repair any corruption that it finds.-rebuild-tree: This option rebuilds the entire fil#1 2008-05-27 23:57:50 yodo Member From: Germany Registered: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=49301 2008-02-02 Posts: 71 [SOLVED] fsck does not check ntfs-file system Hi there,When I try to check my ntfs-partition with fsck manually, fsck aborts with this error message: fsck 1.40.8 (13-Mar-2008)fsck: fsck.ntfs-3g: not foundfsck: Error 2 while executing error 2 fsck.ntfs-3g for /dev/sda1The automatic check while booting also fails.fsck.ntfs seems not to be installed, I can use: fsck.cramfs, fsck.ext2, fsck.ext3, fsck.jfs, fsck.minix, fsck.reiserfs, fsck.static and fsck.xfs.But where can I download fsck.ntfs?Would be glad if someone could give me error 2 while a hint.greetings, yodoEdit:I searched again... this time I found an answer: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=46657Was sure that it worked once...
