See my Mac Malware Guide regarding that topic:http://www.reedcorner.net/guides/macvirusSomething is probably causing those zip files to become corrupt, but what that might be is hard to say. I'd try repairing your hard drive with Disk Utility. (Hold down command-R at startup to repair the boot drive.) I'd also do some careful checking of your network connection to make sure that's not introducing errors in downloaded data. (20,497,570,063 bytes) I am trying to uncompress it but both Archive Utility and Terminal are failing to do so. Archive Utility is giving error 2 (no such file or directory). When I execute the following command: unzip myfile.zip it just stops at some point, while it says that there are some extra bytes when it starts. When I do http://superuser.com/questions/930731/zip-corrupted-on-mac zipinfo on this file, it says the same: Archive: /Users/USERNAME/Desktop/pictures.zip 20497570063 8664 warning [/Users/USERNAME/Desktop/pictures]: 17179869184 extra bytes at beginning or within zipfile (attempting to process anyway) When it's done unzipping the folder is only about 8GB or so big. Does anyone of you happen to know how I can fix this or get all the pictures out of this zip file? osx compression zip share|improve this question asked Jun 21 '15 at 20:16 JeroenJK 12315 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Perhaps you could try to follow the steps in this article: How to Repair Damaged Zip Files With Terminal and see if that helps you. Essentially what the article says is that you can try with this command: zip -F myBrokenArchive.zip --out hopefullyRepairedArchive.zip and if that doesn't work, make zip try even harder with zip -FF myBrokenArchive.zip --out hopefullyRepairedArchive.zip share|improve this answer answered Jun 21 '15 at 21:46 Jesper 1133 I had the same zip on another harddrive and that one didn't seem to be corrupted. reason. Mac OS X has a built-in application to do this, Archive Utility, but apparently this does not work with every zip files. The Archive Utility error: "Unable to expand "myfiles.zip" into "Downloads". (Error 2 - No such file or directory.). The Mac is up-to-date running Mac OS X 10.7.3 and still running into this problem. There is several application to resolve this problem. E.g. StuffIt Expander is free on app store. After installation right-click on the zip, Open with, Other.
