local ports, Computer -> Connect local, using Portmon v. 3.02, I'm getting an error message, Error 2, in a small error dialog box: I run the tool as an administrator (if not, I get error 6). By the way this is a Windows 7 x64. On 32-bit, in Windows 7 x86, it works fine. How can I fix this problem? serial-port share|improve this question edited Aug 19 '13 at 14:12 Peter portmon not connected win7 Mortensen 10.3k1369107 asked Aug 31 '09 at 8:38 JAG 95521018 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 49 down vote accepted Sysinternals' Portmon works only on 32-bit versions of Windows. It does not support 64-bit (probably its driver is not signed). From the Portmon homepage: Runs on: Client: Windows XP (32-bit) and higher (32-bit). Server: Windows Server 2003 (32-bit) and higher (32-bit). share|improve this answer edited Aug 19 '13 at 12:02 Peter Mortensen 10.3k1369107 answered Sep 5 '09 at 8:38 swatkat 3,1701614 7 @JAG, It's 2011 and they still haven't updated it. It works fine like that in Windows7 64-bit. share|improve this answer edited Aug 19 '

[closed] http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1356470/sysinternals-portmon-error-2 up vote 9 down vote favorite The title questions pretty much says it all. I've looked around quite a bit, but I have yet to find a free way to monitor a serial port (without opening or blocking it from other applications), that works on Windows 7 64-bit. Even Microsoft's own portmon does not work. A few posts have talked about running it in compatibility mode, but it doesn't work for me. I've tried compatibility mode for Windows http://superuser.com/questions/431660/is-there-a-free-way-to-monitor-a-serial-port-on-windows-7-x64 XP service pack 2 and 3 (the only ones available on the drop-down list), and neither allow it to function. So yeah, is there any FREEWARE licensed serial port monitoring software out there for Windows 7 64-bit? windows-7 64-bit serial-port share|improve this question asked Jun 1 '12 at 23:57 Xantham 154114 closed as off topic by Canadian Luke, TFM, HackToHell, Julian Knight, Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 Mar 23 '13 at 16:13 Questions on Super User are expected to relate to computer software or computer hardware within the scope defined by the community. Unlike with usermode programs which can use WOW64 to run a 32bit app on a x64 system. –0xC0000022L Jun 2 '12 at 0:00 1 Why is this flagged as off topic ? –truthseeker Oct 23 '15 at 6:52 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote I just tried Advanced Serial Port Monitor "Spy" mode does just what you want. It's only free to try, however, you have to pay for a permanent solution. http://www.ag

This applies to Portmon v3.03. When you double clickonportmon.exe iconfrom within a Windows Explorerwindow (windows key + e)the connect timing seems to be sensitive to other windows microsoft portmon error open on the system. The workaround is to ***close ALL windows and applications***, open a command prompt (i.e. Start->Run...->cmd->OK) and launch portmon.exe from the command line. ---- In addition, you canrun into a pitfall if you try to run from a zip file. For this case on Windows XP, you should unzip the file into a directory, right mouse click on the unzipped portmon.exe file andin the Properties Dialog->General tab click on the Security"Unblock"button. Also, if permissions/security settingscome into play, youcan right mouse click on theportmon.exe file and choose the "Run As..." menu item, and make sure that the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity" check box is unchecked or run as an Administrator. Again, once you have encountered the "Not Connected" state for the application as indicated in the window title bar, any subsequent attempts to launch from a window, will still lead to the "Not Connected" state where the Capture->Capture Events and Capture->Ports menu item
serial port is Com1, in device manager the OS detects the correct modem (USR V.92) and will retrieve info from the modem, so the hardware works. I've also used 'echo atdt 12345 > com1' successfully form the command line. Again, the hardware works. But not other application can access the port. Portmon from sysinternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896644) running in compatibility also can't see the port., it gets and "error 2". This port is connected to my modem (used for remote access to the craft/management/console port of various devices) which is scripted for testing all the far-end modems -- the script of course will fail if it can't control the modem. This port is also used locally for testing/configuring other equipment via a craft/management/console port. The problem is not drivers (se above about the hardware working) but rather that there appears to be some Win7 process that is holding the com port. May 4th, 2011 5:54pm Hi, What device and application has this issue? Portmon is not compatible for Windows 7. Not each application will work under compatibility mode. Make sure your other applications are compatible with Windows 7 64-bit.
