This is the first time I’m using the program, so I’m having a few problems setting it up. I can't connect to a server because presumably i don't have one. I typed in my machine name to create a default/localhost server using windows authentication but i received an error. Error: TITLE: Connect to Server A network-related or instance-specific error occurred http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11629475/microsoft-sql-server-2008-management-studio-connect-server-instance-issue while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2) Could someone guide me on how i can setup up a local host to connect and thus be able to create my database. Also I’d like to know afterwards how i can create a server (ftp) to connect into and create my database there allowing me to view this on my laptop or a different machine. Btw i have looked on Google for this, but I’m getting a bit confused, because I’m unsure what I’m searching for. If anyone can shed some light on my problem i would be greatly appreciated. Here is how it goes, most of the time developers have worked with SQL Server and knows pretty much every error which they face during http://serverfault.com/questions/11745/i-cannot-connect-to-my-local-sql-server-2008 development language. However, hardly they install fresh SQL Server. As the installation of the SQL Server is a rare occasion unless you are DBA who is responsible for such an instance error 2 - the error faced during installations are pretty rare as well.I have earlier written an article about this which describes how to resolve the errors which are related to SQL Server connection. Even though the step by step directions are pretty simple there are many first time IT Professional who are not able to figure out how to resolve this error. My intention is to just let my local windows user be authenticated but I am not totally sure how to do that. In the connect dialog I'm writing: Server type: Database Engine Server name: (local) Authentication: Windows Authentication My first question would be if that is what I should connect to? When I try to connect I get this error message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to (local). ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. I think it is but I am not totally sure. I've disabled the Windows Firewall (this is Windows 7 7100 x86). I've also changed the log on system in the SQL Server Configuration Manager but it
