The current server installed: "c:\Program Files\MySQL\mysqld" --defaults-file=my.ini MySQL But as you can see the path I set is "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\bin\mysqld" but not "c:\Program Files\MySQL\mysqld" So no doubt when I type: net start mysql I get: System error 2 has occurred. The system cannot find the file specified. How to change the strange wrong directory? I've never set this wrong directory before. However I get frequent errors on connection; I can usually eventually connect but after many retries. The error message I get is: Mysql.mysql(): Couldn't connect to SQL-server: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading authorization packet', system error: 2 I have read the information here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/error-lost-connection.html and also the comments to the bug http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28359. There are quite a number of aborted connects as you can http://serverfault.com/questions/192463/connection-error-to-mysql-database see: mysql> SHOW GLOBAL STATUS LIKE 'Aborted_connects'; +------------------+-------+ | Variable_name | Value | +------------------+-------+ | Aborted_connects | 2540 | +------------------+-------+ I increased the timeout from 5 to 15 sec: mysql> show variables like 'connect_timeout'; +-----------------+-------+ | Variable_name | Value | +-----------------+-------+ | connect_timeout | 15 | +-----------------+-------+ but this has not helped. Any suggestions how to debug this ? It makes the database interaction horribly slow when it on average has to try to connect 5 times before it works. I have not yet tried to keep the connection open for the lifetime of the application, would that be better ? How do I prevent the connection from closing ? If it helps the computer with the problems is Windows 7 32-bit, while the mysql server is on Debian Linux. mysql connection authorization share|improve this question edited Oct 27 '10 at 13:15 asked Oct 19 '10 at 12:10 Zitrax 4811820 I know this is only a bandage but the bug report URL does state: "I have worked-around the problem by increasing the connect_timeout global variable to 30 seconds." Do you want to try a higher value? –JoseK Oct 19 '10 at 13:01 1 Cold comfort, but this is a well-written question. Excellent following of the Eric S. Raymond article... +1 to you, and good luck. –gWaldo Oct 19 '10 at 13:31 @JoseK of course I ca

The error log is totally empty for the day in question. The my.ini file is in the folder indicated in the Service Startup panel. There is no clue as to what file the system cannot find. How to repeat: This bug just started today. I can repeat it every time I start the Mysql service on this machine. [28 Jun 2006 18:23] Miguel Solorzano Thank you for the bug report. Could you please try to get the error message issuing within a DOS prompt in the \bin install directory: mysqld-nt --defaults-file"path_to_your_my.ini" --standalone --console the above is assuming mysqld-nt.exe is the binary which belongs to the service image path, you can see which binary is issuing: C:\>sc qc mysql [SC] GetServiceConfig SUCCESS SERVICE_NAME: mysql TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS START_TYPE : 3 DEMAND_START ERROR_CONTROL : 1 NORMAL BINARY_PATH_NAME : c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt MySQL LOAD_ORDER_GROUP : TAG : 0 DISPLAY_NAME : MySQL DEPENDENCIES : SERVICE_START_NAME : LocalSystem [28 Jun 2006 20:00] Dennis Foreman Here's a paste of my console activity.
