However, with the help of procmon, it turned out that the issue was caused by an incorrect registry entry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Parameters\ServiceDll Event Log service by default will look at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\ServiceDll for the service dll to start the service, however, when "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Parameters" presents, it will look for ServiceDll underneath the "Parameters" sub key. And in my case, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Parameters\ServiceDll was referring to an empty string, so Event log service cannot find the service dll file to start the service. So, I just deleted the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\eventlog\Parameters, and after that, Event log service starts corre

Computer properties states that: Windows activation:Status and Product ID not available. Norton Internet Security and Windows Defender are on the machine and up to date. I check the sppsvc service and it is stopped. I start the sppsvc service and it says it is starting, then it says it could not be started and that a "system error occurred" and that a "system error 2 occured" and that "the system cannot find the file specified". I renamed the tokens.dat file to tokens.bar. Thenran net start sppsvc . A tokens.dat was not re-created. And I get the same error message: starting , could not be started, system error, system error 2, system cannot find the file specified. Dir only shows the tokens.bar No system image disks are provided by Gateway. Ihad not createdmy ownset of systemimage disks. I alsotried doing a system restore to the earliest restore point andthat did not fix the problem. I guess I will have to order system image disks from Gateway unless you can pinpoint the culprit.
