February 2004 00:27 Luc Messages: 11Registered: January 2002 Junior Member I amworking with ORA 8i. For performance reasons (dropping users takes way too long) i tried to copy an empty http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/21671/ database over the existing one and then restoring a dump in the empty http://p2p.wrox.com/oracle/35005-pls-103-error.html database. Forthis database i always get the error 1033 database shutdown or startup is in process. when checking the services, the db-instance is running as well as the agent and the listener. When i start/stop the instance manually i keep getting this message. When putting the zip back it works error codes perfectly. Can anyone tell me what else i need to copy? Why not remove the files(controlfiles, redolog files, datafiles, tempfiles etc) cleanly and copy the new empty database files(including the controlfile). When are you getting the error ?
