go away, until a few days later when, each time I tried to take an image, I got the error.through all this, there have been a number of times when pressing the shutter-release resulted in nothing happening.So, I've tried taking the lens off and cleaning the contacts, then replacing and trying to take a shot - still get the error message.I've tried replacing the battery - error message.I've tried canon camera error codes the shutter release with no lens attached - error message.I haven't tried another CF card yet - that's just occurred to me! Could this be the issue, or is my camera an ex-camera?Any advice would be welcome. Many thanks

It may help some of you isolate the problem before you post a comment/question.To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the following:1. Turn off the camera. 2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card. 3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes. 4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera. 5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.Does the “ERR 99″ message appear? Your removal of the battery was a good first thing to try. I'll have you re-do it here for the sake of going in order below 1. Turn off the camera.2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.5. Depress the shutter button as you would to take a picture.Does error 99 still appear? Please proceed with the following steps.6. Format the CF card in the camera. This will erase all data on the card so please be sure to save the images first.7. Also, please attempt the use of a new card properly formatted in the camera.8. Err 02: Memory card error There is a problem with communication between the camera and memory card (again, could be within the camera, or the card), or the camera has detected a different error error codes of some sort with the card. Err 04: Card Full The camera detects that no space is available for image storage on the memory card… this could be a simple matter of the card literally reaching its capacity, or perhaps some sort of card error where space on the card is not being seen as “available” by the camera. Err 05: Built-in flash obstruction The camera detects that the built-in flash has not canon 30d error reached its normal, raised position for flash shooting, and is halting operation until the obstruction to the flash is cleared, or the flash is pushed back down to its OFF position. This error message won’t appear on cameras like the EOS 5D series, which have no built-in flash. Err 06: Self-cleaning sensor malfunction The sequence of events during the self-cleaning process is not being detected as completed. Err 10: File malfunctionSome sort of error in files written (or attempted to be written) to the memory card has been detected.Err 20: Mechanical malfunctionWithin the mirror, shutter or aperture mechanism (most likely), some sort of disturbance, error or lock-up has been detected. This error code doesn’t specify where the exact problem is, but points to the cause being mechanical rather than an electronic gremlin.Err 30: Shutter malfunctionUnlike Error 20, this one does point to some sort of problem with the shutter… it could be either a mechanical problem, or some sort of electronic communication error.Err 40: Power source malfunctionAn internal error in getting power from the battery to some part of the camera has been detected. Most likely, it’s not a simple weak battery, although of course a battery error is a possibility.Err 50: Electronic control malfunctionUnlike Error 20, which points to something mechanical, this one reports to the photographer that some sort of electronic er
