The Canon web site has (you'll have to search) a list of error messages and what they mean. Look that up and you'll know what you're dealing with. Another thought is to pull the lens and gently, and I do mean gently, clean (no liquids) the lens and camera body contacts. At times these get dirty and the camera and lens can't "talk". If you don't get an answer you can use perhaps a discussion with Canon will help. Yes No Voted Undo Score 5 Cancel Comments: May be a bit late but I have just bought a 300d spares or repair so I could fix my own one.The one I bought for spares was doing the err 99 thing.I could hear that the shutter was not opening so took the lens off and took a look inside to discover that the soft shutter material was kinked in one corner.I then carefully canon camera error using a cotton bud (Q-TIP) gave it a bit of a nudge in the corner and to my pleasure it slotted back in camera fixed.. Hope that has helped somebody. 11/06/2014 by steve My eos 300d, that I bought to fix, would go in to rapid fire mode until I took the battery off. I ended up opening the camera and removing the shutter curtains (I think they were jamming or failed in some form) now the camera works fine and takes a picture. The lack of shutter curtains doesn't bother me much as I only use the camera for long exposure astrophotography. Not bad for £20. 11/07/2014 by challenger3000 Thanks to the comments posted here, I found a dog hair from our bassett had managed to jam the shutter. Removed the dog hair, put the bassett down, problem solved!!!! 01/22/2015 by Paul Henderson i have cannon 300d... all things are ok... but when i press the click button error 99 shown on the screen but the picture is taken in the gallery... I later noticed that my camera wasn't focusing and once I'd snapped a photograph, the image didn't capture; the camera would stop working and the LCD Mon would flash ERROR 01 So I searched this on google defined as: A communication problem between the lens and the body, suggested cleaning contacts. So then I removed the lens and cleaned the contact on both items but no luck. I then took my camera to Jessops where they tried on another lens, but no luck. Then they placed my lens onto another 350d which seemed to work. SO obviously a broken body. Its currently in repair under warranty.. but they made me sign a form stating that the problem was a manufacturing problem and not a drop.. and if they notice, Ill have to pay a repair fee, which Im quite happy to do so, but has this happened to anybody else? and will this cost me thousads of pounds?!
