All Replies Posted by ejn63 on 31 Jul 2010 11:29 This is likely a memory error - try reseating the memory module(s). One module is in a compartment under http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19340855 the system and the other requires removing the keyboard to access: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd620/en/SM/memory.htm#wp1084976 Like 0 Reply You have posted to a forum that requires a moderator to approve posts before they are publicly available. Posted by mattr1971 on 17 Nov 2011 17:31 Hi - could this be anything else besides a memory seating problem? I have the very same symptoms with the three LED lights, but have tried and retried reseeting the memory modules with no change. Are there other components that could be at fault? Cancel good medicine Rep: 25 2 Posted: 10/01/2010 Options Permalink History Sounds like the RAM chip under the keyboard is not seated to suit itself. If you've never done this before, refer to the Tear Down photos before you try it. If you are all thumbs, bring it to somebody. After unplugging the AC adapter and removing the battery, you might try taking the keyboard off, disconnecting the cable and removing inspecting and reinstalling the RAM chip. If it springs up when you release the clips, remove it and inspect the buss. If it looks clean and smooth, reinstall it by carefully pushing it gently into the socket at the release angle. After you feel it seat slowly push it down. If the clips snap around the base, you should have it seated. Reassemble the keyboard cable being careful to get the tie down clip and the wire handle down flat. Replace the keyb
posted 2011-Apr-25, 10:51 am ref: whrl.pl/RcJepK posted 2011-Apr-25, 10:51 am O.P. I have a Dell Latitude D620 that I bought 2nd hand. I totally refurbished it, pulled apart, cleaned heat sink fans etc, put a new hard drive in it and it’s been running fine a for a few months with no errors of any sort. A few days ago I thought I would try win7 64 bit. It was a bit slow so I found a 1Gb DDR2 stick of ram which I added. I ran ok for a while and I installed SP1 then got distracted and left it for a couple of hours, presumably it went to sleep. Now I can’t start it at all. The only response when I hit the power button is the lights come one for a few seconds and then go out. No image on the screen, fan doesn’t start, nothing. I have tried taking out the battery, unplugging and holding the power button down for 60 seconds then plugging the power cord back in and try to start, same result, lights come on for a few seconds then nothing. I have tried with the battery without the battery, reseating the RAM, trying one module at a time etc. I have also tried disconnecting the cmos battery to clear the BIOS. Nothing has worked and I am out of ideas. Does anyone have any other suggestion/s what I could try? Tropo – which lights are you referring to? The Scroll and Caps lock lights? If these lights blink on power up it usually indicates that there is a memory problem. Can you remove and reseat the memory module and see if that helps? There is a chance that the memory is not seated properly. Better still, if you still have the original memory module, can you try putting that one back in after removing the new module? Edit: Just found this D620 service manual online. It mentions that there are TWO memory modules, one under the keyboard and one under the base of the laptop.I'm going to guess that you replaced the one under the base, and that it is probably a memory miss-match that is causing your problem. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd620/en/SM/memory.htm#wp1084976 User #54136 9045 posts Chuck Fetch Whirlpool Forums Addict reference: whrl.pl/RcJfl9 posted 2011-Apr-25, 3:34 pm ref: whrl.pl/RcJfl9 posted 2011-Apr-25, 3:34 pm tropo did u try with hdd disconnected?
