These can be audible beeps, power buttons that display different states and colours, specific diagnostics LEDs or a combination of them all, in order to indicate at which point during the

These LEDs do not indicate the problem that caused the POST routine to stop. Note: Please be aware that if your system completes POST without stopping on a particular error code and then gives a black screen, the most likely reason is that you are experiencing a No Boot issue and not a No POST issue at all. I've included a table below with what these indicated. These models were readily identifiable by the rounded fronts and clamshell assembly. active and visible during the Power On Self-Test (POST) process. Once the operating system starts to load, they turn off and are no longer visible. The configuration of these LEDs along with the color state of the power button http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN284978/en can help pinpoint a potential problem with the system. Each LED has three possible states: OFF, ON, or BLINKING. Use the chart below as a reference for the different LED patterns and the possible system issues they indicate. Note: The diagnostic LEDs only serve as an indicator of the progress through the POST (Power On Self-Test) process. These LEDs do not indicate the problem that caused the POST routine to stop. For a more detailed description of the POST http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN288973/en process and how to troubleshoot issues with the system powering on and booting to Windows, refer to the article Why Won't my Desktop Computer Turn On? at the Dell support site. Blinking amber Initial state of LED at power up.Indicates system has power, but the POWER_GOOD signal is not yet active. If the Hard Drive LED is off, it is probable that the power supply needs to be replaced. If the Hard Drive LED is on, it is probable that an onboard regulator or VRM has failed. Look at the diagnostic LEDs for further information. Solid amber Second state of the LED at power up. Indicates the POWER_GOOD signal is active and it is probable that the power supply is fine. Look at the diagnostic LEDs for further information. Blinking white System is in a low power state, either S1 or S3. Look at the diagnostic LEDs to determine which state the system is in. Solid white System is in S0 state, the normal power state of a functioning machine. The BIOS will turn the LED to this state to indicate it has started fetching operation codes.Back to Top 3. Having issues with my mom's dell.At first when I checked it out last week lights 3 and 4 were lit on the indicator. The system was running two 1Ghz sticks. I took one out and the system was able to post into windows.I figured the other stick must be bad. I bought ram, used but should still be covered under g skill warranty. Installed and then nothing. No post.I switch around the ram, and it posts but then I get a BSOD. Something about bad pool header. I try switching in and out the old ram, the new ram, in various configurations.Right now, it's running one stick of 1Ghz, the old ram. Some dell diagnostic "preboot system assessment" is running. How can I see whether I have a motherboard problem or a ram issue? I do not have another system to test ddr2 ram on. · actions · 2013-Nov-9 3:04 pm · asdfdfdfdfdfPremium Memberjoin:2012-05-09kudos:3 asdfdfdfdfdf Premium Member 2013-Nov-9 3:29 pm When you say you switched around the ram did you swap the stick you took out for the stick that was able to boot (i.e. did you try both sticks individually in the first slot)? Did they both boot alone in that particular slot?Did you try both sticks in the other 2 slo
