Resolution: 1) This error can occur if the user name is https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/824864 the same as the domain name. 2)This error can occur if the username is 'system'. 3) This error can occur if dialing in to a Windows NT Remote Access Server and your password has http://www.howtonetworking.com/vpnissues/error649.htm expired. 4) Make sure the user is allowed to dial-in. 5) Check PPTP filtering. For the test, disable PPTP filtering on the server (Net Stop RASPPTPF), and see if you can establish a non-filtered connection. This can happen when the error codes user dials into an NT server. If you are using an NT server, then perhaps you should allow them to login. Make sure your landline isn't engaged with a fax or phone call. Restart your computer. Check your computer for any viruses or other malware. If you're not sure how to do this, please contact support for your antivirus software provider. Check the manufacturer's tech specs for your dialup modem to confirm it's compatible with your operating system. This may be useful if you have an old dialup modem but a very new operating system - your modem may not have been tested for compatibility with the latest software if that software didn't exist when the modem was manufactured.
