Subscriptions My stuff Preferences Send a message Log Out TechRepublic | Forums | Hardware Hardware Register Now or Log In to post Welcome back, My Profile Log Out Recent Activity FAQs Guidelines Question 0 Votes Locked parity error message Floppy drive failed (40) Error on startup By dhuber · 8 years ago I was replaced a couple of optical drives on an older computer and now I get this error message upon boot-up, "Floppy drive failed (40) Error on startup" Once I got it to show up in the device manager and it gave an error code of 31 which is it needs another device/connection to run but I have no ibm checkpoint codes idea what it wants. I have tried four different floppy drives and two different cables but still get the same result. It worked fine before so I don't understand. Have also checked the BIOS to make sure the drive was set correctly but no change. I recently I found out I can't access it on my XP computer or my Vista computer. The error states that my disk needs to be formatted. The error code is 0x800706f9 if that means anything. I have tried dragging files, copy, and dragging files. Windows explorer just crashes or I get the format error. The files are shown on my computer and drive
