Check out http://www.yelloworangeroom.comIn this video I show you a few things to look for to fix your furnace. It's expensive to call a repair man and most of the time is not needed. I am not an expert, just someone trying to share my experience with you to save some money. Always turn your power to your furnace off before tampering with things. This would be a good video to start with because I try to show a general idea of how a furnace works. When all else fails, you have to call an expert, but first try the steps in this video. Here is a list of codes that was posted to www.doityourself.com by Huston204Flash sequence codes 1 through 11 are as follows: LED will turn "on"f

morning to find your vents blowing nothing but cold air, everything else on the day's "to-do list" takes second place to fixing your heater! This recently happened to us, and instead of working (I http://goodideasandtips.com/2013/03/how-to-troubleshoot-a-gas-furnace/ work from home), I decided to fix it myself. So in this article, you'll http://en.allexperts.com/q/Heating-Air-Conditioning-696/2011/10/hvac-american-standard-freedom.htm learn how to troubleshoot a gas furnace. Now before I get into the basics of troubleshooting a gas heater, I'd like to address the warning mechanism Trane has in place to notify the homeowner of an error. Instead of a nice little beep or an orange or yellow light coming on, Trane has decided to blow cold air to error codes let you know that something's not right. Here's my thought process on that…..as if it's not bad enough that the heater went out, now they have to blow cold air to cool your house down even more. Let's freeze them out of house and home…that will get their attention! Just dumb. Anyway, one with my "how to." How to troubleshoot a gas furnace My particular furnace model is a Trane XR80. Note: I am furnace error codes not a professional. So take that into consideration before you attempt any of these troubleshooting steps. If you still have the manual which came with your furnace, refer to their troubleshooting section for additional help. The first thing I ALWAYS do when something stops working is take it apart. So, I removed the two front panels of my furnace to see what was working and what was not. The infuser started up and the surface ignitor started glowing, just as it always should, but for some reason, the gas valve was not letting gas in. So I turned my kitchen stove on, also gas, to make sure the gas was on and made sure the gas valve on the inlet hose was open. So right away, I knew it had to be something to do with the gas valve. Every Trane furnace has a blinking light on the control panel. It can actually be seen through a little looking glass hole in the bottom panel. Whenever there's an error, the light will have a unique blinking sequence. That code can be used to troubleshoot the problem. BUT, there's a secret to viewing the code. If the furnace doesn't start the first time, it will attempt two more times. That means the infuser (fan sound) will turn on and off three
borgman - 11/8/2011 QuestionQUESTION: When I turn on the furnace at the power switch, the draft blower immediately kicks on and a few seconds later the main blower goes on. The burners never ignite. I disconnected both thermostats (by disconnecting the wiring from the control board) and that made no difference. Q1 -- Is the control board bad? Q2 -- How do you determine model of the control board? ANSWER: Bill, It does not sound like the module is bad, rather the ignitor or the inducer is not making the pressure switch circuit. On the control board there is a red l.e.d. light that will be blinking a code. Either on the module itself or the door of the furnace there is a ledger that tells you what the number of blinks means. ---------- FOLLOW-UP ---------- QUESTION: You are correct -- the red l.e.d. blinks 7 times in about 3.5 seconds (all blinks are short), there's a 2 second pause, and then it repeats. Unfortunately the ledger is not there. How do I determine the meaning of the error code? Thanks! ANSWER: Bill, I do not remember those numbers. Are you sure they are not on either side of the door, or in the corner of the schematic? Or on the module itself? They really should be there, I have never seen them not there in 30 years of doing this. If not you can google TRANE which is what you have and either look for the service manual for that furnace of possibly contact them with model and serial number. But, I am thinking it might be the pressure switch is stuck closed or does not open for the blower to come on that quick. If it were the ignitor it would take longer for the blower to come on and you would hear the gas valve click and hear the rush of gas. Or, there is a possibility that the board is failing. That is the least often to happen, but it does. ---------- FOLLOW-UP ---------- QUESTION: Unfortunately it appears that a previous service tech removed the information. Here is a list of codes I was able to obtain -- 2 Flashes: External lockout (retries or recycles exceeded) 3 Flashes: Pressure switch error 4 Flashes: Open limit device 5 Flashes: Flame
