If you have a dual power supply, make sure that both are on-line and properly functioning. Also check to see if there is a drive failure in your array. 0 Message Author Comment by:dtrammell12010-09-10 all of the drives look fine no messages or lights on them. I do have dual power supplies and both are good. the lights I am seeing are on the 2 I/O Modules and the Fault LED. From the server I can see all of the drives and am not seeing any errors 0 LVL 61 Overall: Level 61 Storage 10 Message Active today Expert Comment by:gheist2010-09-10 It shows amber light for bad power, bad disk firmware OR for unitialized array.... 0 Message Author Comment by:dtrammell12010-09-10 is there anyway to narrow this down? I upgraded the firmware hoping this would clear the error but it didnt change anything there are 10 drives we 2 slots open (no drives) 2 of the drives are not configured yet. 0 LVL 32 Overall: Level 32 Storage 6 Message Active 2

Do we need another DL server with controller so that we could use iSCSI ? Do we need to get some P800 controller for doing that? I cannot imagine how it is connected together actually ... MSA60->DLserver with p800 controller and servers that are running VM connected with iSCSI to this DL server http://serverfault.com/questions/216679/storageworks-msa60-and-other-storage-related-questions ? Or MSA60 directly supports iSCSI so the DL server is not necessary ? What is inside this MSA60? Is it possible to install there OS ? Thank you. storage share|improve this question asked Dec 28 '10 at 11:01 John 7731638 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The HP StorageWorks MSA60 is a JBOD enclosure intended to be used with a server. It's an extension of a Smart Array controller, so it will require a p800 or p812 controller inside a server to interface with the enclosure. The MSA60 is meant to connect to a single server. You haven't provided information on your operating systems or choice of virtualization platform, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the solution you're looking for. 1). If you're looking to extend the amount of storage available on a single virtual host server, then the MSA60 will work. There would be no need for iSCSI as you'd be directly connected via SAS to the storage array. This provides no real benefit other than having more room for disk drives than the server may have. 2). If you're looking to have two or more virtual host servers in a cluster and tied to the same shared storage via iSCSI (or SAS or fibre channer), then you should look at the entry-level MSA P2000 storage arrays. These look like the MSA60, but

Will the MSA60 work with the msa2324sa? Will the MSA60 support 6TB drives? We're looking at WD Red drives. Why do they say 1-8 bays in the drive documentation? Would the 1-8 bays apply in case they're in the MSA60? Can I add 12 WD Red 6TB drives to the MSA60 and have a single volume? We're looking at RAID6 or RAID50, perhaps using 1 or 2 drives as spares. This is primarily for file msa60 error codes storage and backups, so SATA is ok for us. It would only recognize 2.2TB, which seems to point to a 32-bit LBA somewhere...? So, going to try 2TB drives next. –Greg Thompson Apr 28 '15 at 21:34 To wrap this up, we couldn't get the 4TB drives to work with the msa2324sa. We also could not get the firmware to upgrade on the I/O modules of the MSA60. We were getting an error that MSA60 is not supported. So, we returned everything and went with MSA70 and 25 1TB HP SATA midline drives. Thanks so much to the supplier for helping and being flexible. We were able to successfully update the I/O firmware on the MSA70. It works, but much less space than hoped for. –Greg Thompson May 8 '15 at 19:12 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted I would suggest using an D2600 unit instead of the MSA60, but it will technically work when cascaded from your MSA2324 unit. 6TB drives... 4TB disks are known to work in that enclosure, so the 6TB will likely work. I wouldn't use SATA for a JBOD exp
