Find me on Social Media Nikon DSLR Error codes: Explained Ever had a dreaded error message flash up on your Nikon DSLR? Or is it happening right now and your search has brought you to this article? Well, either way, I recently http://www.richardpeters.co.uk/blog/2011/01/07/nikon-dslr-error-codes-what-do-they-mean/ needed to find more info on these codes myself and decided to put all the info I found in one place. So here is a quick guide to what those codes generally mean, along with a couple of simple solutions to hopefully get you back up and running. f EE If you only use G type lenses you'll never see this error message as it indicates the aperture ring is not set to the minimum aperture. The fix is easy, just set the aperture ring back to minimum and lock it in place. There is usually an aperture ring lock to stop you accidentally twisting it, it's a small orange notch on a switch, and the lenses smallest aperture will be marked in orange as well to help remind you. FEE code means the aperture lock is not set f- - This means the lens and camera are not communicating with each other. Usual causes are that either the lens is an older model without electronic contacts (i.e. is not a CPU lens) or it is not fully connected. If it is a CPU lens then remove the lens and re-attach, making sure you fully twist the lens until you

Any help appreciated as to what the problem may be Al Apr 23, 2011 #2 spangler Well-Known Member Do you change lenses on the camera or just use the kit lens? It could be https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2605/~/what-does-the-fee-or-f---error-message-displayed-on-an-slr-camera-mean%3F a communication problem between camera and lens in which case try cleaning the contacts. Andrew Apr 23, 2011 #3 alphab Member Use Nikon 70-300mm ED lens always attached hardly ever unscrew Apr 24, 2011 #4 spangler Well-Known Member Then remove error codes the lens and gently clean the electrical contacts! Andrew Apr 24, 2011 #5 Atavar Well-Known Member As Andrew says, the first port of call for the Err message is the communication between camera and lens. With the host of moving parts and the mirror flapping the air inside the camera about violently, greasy particles can build up on the contacts it seems, which require a little attention every so often. If you open the camera and see some black on the contacts, it definitely needs nikon d70 error it and even if you can't see anything its worth a rub just in case. Also, as this is the lens you use most often with the camera, test it with another lens to see if you are getting the same message to see if it could be the lens communication that has gone awry. As dSLRs are mostly electronic jiggery pokery inside, this is one of the very few parts we as users can actually have some maintenance control over, so its a quick clean of the contacts and maybe after that a desperate two-button reset, with a last-ditch firmware upgrade/refresh but if the problem persists you'll have no other action but to send it off to the menders, unfortunately.
