I had the same problem with the Nikon d90 F-- error message which drove me nuts! I called Nikon, they walked me through a lengthy reset procedure which didn't work. After spending a few hours researching online, I found the answer. It is not the memory card or nor a defective camera body. The lens does not need to be rechipped. The F-- error means the camera is unable to communicate with the lens and is caused by a poor connection between the ground contact pin on the lens and the metal mounting ring on the camera. Most people buy the camera, install the lens once and then encounter the error. This one time lens installaiton does not give the contact point a chance to seat itself properly. You will find that if you hold down the lens release button and twist the lens as if to remove and reinstall the lens about 10 times that the problem will disappear. You don't even have to actually pull the lens away from the body, just press the release butto

In reply to plec • Jan 1, 2003 The r-- indicates how many pictures are left before you fill your buffer. For example: r02 -- you can take 2 pictures before your buffer is fullAt r00, your buffer is completely full. You need to wait until the camera finishes writing at least 1 file to the card before you can take another picture. nikon d90 err Unless you take a lot of pictures in sequence, the most likely scenario is that you are using compressed NEF/RAW files. Switch to regular (no compression) NEF/RAW and you should rarely get this buffer full state.plec wrote:sometimes when i am trying to take a picture, i am pressing half way down, and focusing the picture. but when i try to press all the way down, seems like i cannot take the picture, and shows this "r00" error or sign on top lcd (shows on picture number place) , because it is not shooting. i am not sure if it is a focusing error, or shutter release error, or my stupidity. any idea? i could not find it in the manual becausethnx Albert C. There is a small switch contact held on by a small plastic rivet in the Aperture Control Unit that tells the electronics module in the camera what phase the camera is in during its cocking cycle. When that small plastic rivet breaks, the camera can't determine where it is in the cycle and just stops and displays the "err" message. There are 2 ways of fixing the problem, replacing the part with the same plastic-riveted switch contact or taking the Aperture Control Unit apart and replacing the plastic rivet with a small steel screw which can't break again. I've been using the second method for 3 or 4 years now and haven't had a single body experience the same problem again. Bob Kilbourn http://www.camerar
