The first command evidently failed: rpm -Uvh http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/6/x86_64/epel-release-6-8.noarch.rpm This should place a file at /etc/yum.repos.d/epel.repo, with a first line: [epel] That first line is the name of the repo, so if you don't see it, it's not there.
