I assume you are up to date?Try turning off "Active Protection" to see if the scan completes.Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security CenterClick Advanced Menu (bottom left)Click Configure (left)Click Computer & Files (top left)Click Active Protection (left)Uncheck that item in the right-hand panel, Apply and OK then exit.I realize this isn't a suitable remedy and as I said, a recent update was supposed to fix it. RE: error getting scan progress mcafee Aug 9, 2009 9:43 PM (in response to mcafee) Thanks, but I tried that and it did not work. Also I am starting to get pop ups which I never got before. Its almost as if Mcafee is no longer working even though all settings appear to show everything OK. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. RE: error getting scan progress Peter M Aug 10, 2009 6:01 AM (in response to mcafee) Check for malware using the free version of these two tools. Update them and run, then let them delete anything they find and reboot if asked to. http://www.superantispyware.com/superantispywarefreevspro.html http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 4. I came here for help because you guys have been such great help when I have had problems in the past. The first step in the insturctions posted at the top of this forum topic was to run a scan using my current anti-virus software. I http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Anti-Virus-Software-Internet/McAfee-not-able-to-finish-scan/td-p/735138 updated my McAfee software and then tried to run a scan. I first tried to run a Quick Scan but it encountered a problem and I received the following message "McAfee VirusScan - On Demand Scan has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I then chose to Send Error Report. It had scanned 67 files and was scanning C:\Windows\explorer.EXE when the problem occured. After clicking OK or Close after the report was sent to Microsoft the scan appeared to be still running but a min or two later I got another error that said "Scanning has encountered a problem from which it cannot recover. Here are the problem details: -Error getting scan progress. When finished, you will return to the Home window.I am not positive but I would guess that the first message was a Windows error message and the second one was from McAfee.I then tried to run the Full Scan and the Custom Scan with similar results. I did notice that each time the error occured after a few more files had been scanned (first time 67 files were scanned, second time 68, third time 69).What should I do now? move on to the next instruction? Not being able to run McAfee seemed to be a pretty bad sign so I decided to write this post... Thanks for your assistance. AllWally
